The Bible Doesn’t Say That
“God Want’s Us Sick and Miserable in this life”
09/15/24
Last week we started a new series call “The Bible Doesn’t Say That”. Sometime things are put on the Bible that you just can’t fine in scripture. Last week we looked at that God wants us to have a miserable life, as we await going to heaven and we saw that God wants His children to yes work for the kingdom, but to also have a good life. The #1 thing that people want in this life is to Just be happy.
I brought out last week that if we don’t take time to renew our mind to what the Bible say’s and not necessarily what we heard, it can defeat us and hinder our faith. So in this series I want us to look at a couple things that we hear from people and even religion, but I have found that the Bible doesn’t say that.
Again, these things can defeat our faith when we’re trying to believe God.
It can put doubt and unbelief in us, at the time we need faith and endurance.
Hebrews 10:35–39 (NKJV) 35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
37 “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Our foundation scripture for this series is:
John 10:10 (AMP) 10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
So last week we looked at, that the Bible doesn’t say that God wants us to have a Miserable life as we wait for the return of Christ.
This week I want us to see that the Bible doesn’t say that God Want’s Us to be Sick and Miserable in this life”
Yet I hear so many people, even believer’s that believe that God makes us sick to teach us things in this life, Yet as I look into the word of God, which should be our source of truth, I don’t see it anywhere.
I don’t see a Father God who is trying to make us sick, but one who is trying to get us well. Even the human body that He gave us, does all it can in this fallen state to heal itself.
So let’s look into what the Bible does say, and not what other’s say, and let’s believe God for the very best in our lives.
Acts 10:38 (NKJV) 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Is all sickness that comes against us because we let the devil in? NO! we live in a fallen world, but I will say that all sickness has its root’s from the devil.
John 10:10 (NKJV)10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Look at this little story in: Luke 13:10–17 (NKJV) 10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up.
12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”
13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”
15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” 17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
This doesn’t mean she was possessed by a demon but that she had a spirit of infirmity, and some of us might have that today and God wants us set free from this also.
Does God put sicknesses on us to teach us something. Again I have too say NO! If it did then God is doing the work of the devil.
James 1:17 (NKJV) 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Even little old me, can tell you that Sickness is not a good and perfect gift.
This is so important, When we see that sickness and disease is not of God, then we can fight it with God’s strength.
1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV) 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Ephesians 6:13–14 (NKJV)
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Well what about Paul’s thorn in the flesh, I was taught that God put that sickness on Him to keep him humble.
Well let’s look at it.
2 Corinthians 12:7–10 (NKJV) 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.
8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.
First, it says so clear that this thorn in the flesh was, a messenger of Satan.
It doesn’t say it was a messenger of God, oh yeah, maybe the god of this world.
2 Corinthians 4:3–4 (NKJV)
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Ephesians 2:1–2 (NKJV) 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
Let’s quit attributing what satan does to the work of our loving Father. God does not use messenger’s of satan, again these are messenger’s of satan.
Let’s quit listening to people that want to put or take little things that are said and twist them around and call us names for believing the full counsel of God’s word.
So in saying that, What is this thorn in the flesh then?
Remember the law of first mentioned in the Bible. Find when something is first mentioned to get and understanding of what is being spoken.
Numbers 33:55 (NKJV) 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell.
Joshua 23:13 (NKJV)13 know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.
Judges 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be thorns in your side, and their gods shall be a snare to you.’ ”
So we see that the thorns were messengers of satan, not God
Was Paul ever delivered from this messenger of satan? I believe he was.
I believe that this thorn in the flesh was the persecution that came against Paul, that no matter were he went, riot’s, imprisonment, and struggle’s came.
Well here is and interesting scripture in Acts.
Acts 28:30–31 (NKJV) 30 Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him,
31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
Acts 28:30–31 (ESV) 30 He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him,
31proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
So today we see that sickness is real but we can fight it by the word of God. That it is not from God and that if God is for us, then who can be against us.
John 10:10 (AMP) 10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
