John 14:15, 18-??: The Power of a Holy Life

Intro

How do you enjoy all the blessings and joy of the Christian life?

Now I didn’t say how do you have… we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone… I said how do you enjoy?

How do you enjoy the peace of a clear conscience.

The fullness of Joy.

God’s favor and blessing.

Jesus said John 10:10–11“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

How do you enjoy that?

The answer is in living a holy and godly life.

Sin is compared to eating vomit

Dying in a pit.

A pig wallowing in the mire.

It is impossible to enjoy all the blessings and benefits purchased for us by Christ while living in and wallowing in sin.

Sin will always steal your joy.

Its compared to broken cisterns that have no water (Jeremiah 2:13).

it can never satisfy while God the fountain of living waters is standing right there.

Now every Christian wants to live a holy life fundamental to being a Christian is renouncing sin to follow Christ.

The problem is many Christians don’t know how.

They know what to do… obey the Bible and obey God’s commands.

But they don’t know how to do it.

With Paul they say the evil I don’t want to do is what I keep on doing… so i find it to be a law that when I want to do right evil lies close at hand.

So how do you live a holy and godly life and enjoy all the blessings and promises of God as you were meant to in your salvation?

The power of a holy life is love. Living out those new affections and new desires worked in us by the Holy Spirit

The answer is not obey more it’s love more
