I. The Israelites Were Set Up a Standard in the Land

C. I Believe That the Standard Had to Do With God’s Commandments

Jeremiah 51:26–28 “26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, Nor a stone for foundations; But thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the Lord. 27 Set ye up a standard in the land, Blow the trumpet among the nations, Prepare the nations against her, Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; Appoint a captain against her; Cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers. 28 Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, The captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, And all the land of his dominion.”

II. The Jews in the New Testament, Lowered the Authority of the Commandments by Their Traditions

A. Jesus Said That They Laid Aside the Commandment of God, to Hold to the Traditions of Men

Mark 7:8 “8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.”

B. The Pharisees Said by Their Traditions That You Didn’t Have to Honor Your Father and Mother, If You a Gift

Mark 7:9–13 “9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. 10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: 11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. 12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; 13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”

B. Mark, Said That They Are in Vain Worship Not Jesus, But They Are Teaching for Doctrine the Commandments of Men

Mark 7:7 “7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

C. In Matthew, It Also Said the Same Thing

Matthew 15:9 “9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”

D. We Are Warned in Colossians, to Not Be Spoiled Through Philosophy and Vain Deceit

Colossians 2:8 “8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

E. We Are Not to Keep Company With Any Man Who Follows After Sin

1 Corinthians 5:11 “11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.”

F. The Unrighteous Will Not Inherit the Kingdom of God

1 Corinthians 6:9 “9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,”

G. You Can’t Even Be Idolater, Worship a Man, an Inherit the Kingdom of God

Ephesians 5:5 “5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”

H. People Now Days Have Gotten So Far Away from God’s Commandments That They Are Worshiping a Man and Calling Him the Chosen One and Savior, Idolizing Him
