Exodus: The Stories in the Story

Intro- Have you ever got a job you didn’t feel qualified for?

The bible is not merely an ancient book of rules. It is a library of different stories telling one unified story of love and redemption. It is foundational, formational, and functional.

Foundational

-Who is God? What is He like? What Does He Think of me?

-Who are we? What is our role?

Formational

-How we should think

-What we should believe

Functional

-How we should act

-How Do we live in Wholeness and Holiness?

Give an Exodus overview

Mose- was put in a river to save him from being murdered….grew up with privilege but was an outsider still…then his anger lead him to be a murder!

Chaos -Slavery and sin (Egyptian Enslavement)

Calling- God calls a person or people or Him to save/lead (Moses Called out)

Promise- Promise to save and Covenant (Burning bush)

Rescue- God steps in. (Passover and red sea parting)

Faithfulness- The people trust and obey (They Make it out by trusting)

Forgetfulness- The people drift from God. (they want to go back)

Abraham -Was old.

Elijah – Was suicidal.

Joseph – Was abused.

Job – Went bankrupt.

Moses – Had a speech problem.

Gideon – Was afraid.

Samson – Was a womanizer.

Rahab – Was a prostitute.

Samaritan Woman – Divorced.

Noah – Was a Drunk.

Jeremiah – Was young.

Jacob – Was a cheater.

David – Was a murderer.

Jonah – Ran from God.

Naomi – Was a widow.

Peter – Denied Christ three times

Martha – Worried about everything.

Zacchaeus – Was small and money hungry.

The Disciples – Fell asleep while praying.

Paul – A Pharisee who persecuted Christians before becoming one.

God will call people regardless of their pasts, their pedigree, or problems because His power is greater than our flaws, faults, or failures.

Only God can make a way for us to go from enslavement to salvation.

Exodus

The New International Version (Chapter 6)

6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.

Galatians

The New International Version (Chapter 5)

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

God is faithful to fulfill His promises, even when we are not.

The New International Version (Chapter 34)

, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.

Don’t go back to broken places God rescued you from, keep following Him.

Faith is a continual act of trust and believing God is who He says He is.
