Introduction:

Hello, and Good morning. How is everyone today? that is good to hear. So, last week we started breaking down John 3:16. a little bit of a refresher from last we is that we broke down half the verse. from just half the verse we come to learn about (1) The Greatest Being (2) The Greatest Trait, (3) The Greatest Company, (4) The Greatest Act, and (5) The Greatest Gift. So, for this week we are going to continue with breaking down John 3:16, we are going to be looking at the second half of the verse. if you remember from last we also come to realize just from this single verse with in scripture we come to understand the whole plan of God. so let’s turn in our main verse in John 3:16
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
So, today points we are going to be looking today are (1) The Greatest Opportunity, (2) The Greatest Foundation, (3) The Greatest Attraction, (4) The Greatest Tragedy, (5) The Difference, and (6) The Greatest Promise. So, let us begin with point of today.

Point one: That Whoever: The Greatest Opportunity:

From last week we have talk about God and his son Jesus Christ. today we actually get to look at ourselves today. What do I mean by this lets turn look at our main verse for today for moment. John 3:16
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The word we are starting with today “whoever” This word right here provide hope for all people who believe in God and Christ. this word in the second half of our main verse provides mankind the greatest opportunity ever. we as Christians come to understand that the provisions of God love is for all. some example we can look, the first coming from Lk 2:8-14
Luke 2:8–14 NKJV
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
here in the account of the gospel of Luke we see that this passage is talk about the angels notifying the Shepard's about the good news that has come into the world. The Angels of the Lord explain how a savior was born in the city of David. who is known Christ. we also come to see that the angel of the lord tells where to find the child who would become the savior of God’s people. another examples comes from Mt 28:18-20
Matthew 28:18–20 NKJV
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
From this passage here in Mt we come to understand the Great Commission. just from verse 18 here in mt we see that all of authority of Heaven and Earth have been given to Jesus Christ. our main focus should be on verse 19 here from this passage because Jesus is commanding his disciples to go all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. From this point we come to understand as followers of Christ we chose to live a life according God’s teaching and Christ’s teaching and applying them to our daily life. those who chose to believe in Jesus christ because of sacrifice understand that we have been given an opportunity to have an relationship with God. another example we can look comes from the book of Acts where we see the actions of the early church after the death of Christ. Let’s turn in our Bible to Acts 10:34-35
Acts 10:34–35 NKJV
34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.
From these two verse here in Acts we get see some of the works Peter was doing for the early Church. Peter explains to Cornelius about how God shows no partiality. Then we come to see that Peter explain how nations should have a healthy fear of God, because God is able to bless a nation on those who work in righteousness, those who do the will of God, and those who obey God will be accepted by God. another example comes Acts again in Acts 17:30
Acts 17:30 NKJV
30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,
From this verse here in Acts we come to understand that God wants us to change for him. those of who have already chosen a life with God come to understand that God chased after us first but mankind broke their promises to God. So, now Mankind must seek God, and to change their ways. another thing Christians come to understand is that God is patient for all, not wanting anyone to perish. lets turn in our Bibles 2nd Peter 3:9
2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
From this verse we come to understand that God is not slacking concerning his promise to mankind, God made promise from the Old Testament that still hold today. now if we continue with the verse here we come to see like in the past there were those who count on slackness, but if you remember God transit above time itself so, time has no effect on God. Like it does with mankind. God has provide all people with the opportunity for us to not go to punishment as long as we are willing to change our way and live according to how God wants his people to live. if you all remember from last week sermon on how Paul want us to be thankful to God from sending his son in 2nd Cor 9:15
2 Corinthians 9:15 NKJV
15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
we should be thankful towards God who provide an opportunity for mankind but we must realize that this is now in our court if this is a tennis ball game. It is now our responsibility to take this opportunity. God did not just chose a random group of people or a certain nation of people to be his chose people, but all people. this really draws on Whoever believes. whoever will or whoever won’t take the opportunity. Each and everyone of us decides rather we take advantage of the opportunity that God provides for us. Lets turn in our Bibles to Rev 22:17
Revelation 22:17 NKJV
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
From this verse here, we come to understand we are freely able to chose where we spend eternality. this allow us to move to point 2 for today.

Point 2: Believe: The Greatest Foundation:

So how does people take advantage of the greatest opportunity that God had provide for mankind? well if we look at our main verse for today which is John 3:16
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
the next word we look at comes from this part here “That whoever Believes” the word we are looking is Believe. our foundation is in our belief in God, and in Christ. our Belief is our foundation because once we chose to believe we grow as Christians because we desire to learn more about God and Christ. those of us who made the chose already understand that it is impossible to please God without faith. Let’s turn in our Bibles to Heb 11:6
Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Here in the chapter of 11 of Hebrews we come to understand that this is the chapter on those who believe in God, and Christ. they were known and remember because of their beliefs. this chapter is known as the hall of Believers or hall of faith. As Christians we come to understand that from our main verse God deeply love and prize the world and who willingly sacrifice his own sons to bring mankind back to him. On one condition they must trust in, cling to, or rely on Christ because if finish the whomever believes shall not perish but have everlasting life. Couple of other things to add to our belief is that it has to be a true, and our belief must lead us to be obedience to the will of God. we can see examples of this. Lets turn in our Bibles to James 2:20
James 2:20 NKJV
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
as we come to understand that belief is our foundation as Christians we must be willing to do things that requiring us have a balance of work and faith because just from this verse here James we come to understand the context is that James is explain that our belief needs to be genuine, and out of love through helping those in need or doing something for the church. this allow us to look at the next example which is found in Gal 5:6
Galatians 5:6 NKJV
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
those of who chose to follow Christ and God come to understand that when we desire to put our belief and works together it must be out of love and not out of selfish gain or worldly gain. this allow us to look at the next example which come from the gospel of Luke, lets turn in our Bibles to Luke 13:3
Luke 13:3 NKJV
3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
As Christians as we grow in our belief in God, and Christ, so does our desire to change ourselves for God and Christ. As we grow in our beliefs they change as we study the words of God, and if our belief grows so do we and we start to change ourselves to fit those beliefs. this allow to look at next example which our belief leads to start confess our beliefs. lets turn in our Bibles to Mt 10:32
Matthew 10:32 NKJV
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
As Christians it should be our desire to share with others about God and Christ have done for mankind. today many people struggle with talking about Christ and God because of how people of the world claim that they being judge. we confess who Jesus Christ is, Christ will confess before the Father who is heaven. this allow us to look at the last example which come from the book of Acts, lets turn in our Bibles to Acts 2:38
Acts 2:38 NKJV
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Our belief should make us want to change for God. our belief should make us want to live different from the world. live a life with good standards and when we leave Earth people will be able to tell how our life was different from a life of worldly gain. this allow us to look at the next point of the day. So, the next point.

Point 3: IN HIM: The Greatest Attraction:

Our next point for today is the phrase within our main verse in John 3:16
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
we will be looking what means to be in Him. we come to understand our faith what means to have faith. now we as Christians must understand what our faith will produce? what will move us to follow and obey the will of God, and the teaching’s of Christ? As Christians we come to understand that Jesus makes salvation possible for all who have faith in him. Jesus is our greatest attraction, without him there is no life with God or life in general. Look at what Jesus had said here in Jn 12:32
John 12:32 NKJV
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
As Christians we understand our faith is not in some man, some doctrine, or some religious system. Our faith in is Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. who died for all who have sin. Jesus Christ is the should be the reason we would want to change our hearts, our minds, and our lifestyle. this allow us move on to the next point for today.

Point 4: Shall Not Perish:The Greatest Tragedy:

So, our next point that we are going to be looking at today from our main verse in John 3:16
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
is the phrase “Should not Perish.” As Christians we come to understand that our faith in Jesus Christ and God should be genuinely true that comes from the heart, because of our obedient faith will prevent the greatest tragedy that can befall on mankind. As Christians we come to understand that in this life there many tragedy’s that can happen, barns burn down, destroying all of what the farmer has, A home is lost in a flood or tornado, that family has lost everything from food to clothing, a husband or father of a large family dies will cause a family to grieve, or when someone who sudden has health issue's, and realize he only has certain mount of time left will think to himself that he is ruined. Yes, these are all tragedy’s, but the greatest one is of the eternal life. we come to understand that man is never ruin until he dies, then he will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord, and we can see the examples within the scriptures. the first examples comes from 2nd Thess 1:9
2 Thessalonians 1:9 NKJV
9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
From this verse here in 2nd Thessalonians we come to understand that Paul is warn the early church about what happens those who chose to live a life of sin. those who chose not to live according to God’s will but live for themselves. another example comes from Mt 25:46
Matthew 25:46 NKJV
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
From this verse we come to see that Jesus is speaking about how those who live according to their own desires and looking for worldly pleasures shall face everlasting or eternal punishment. on the other hand Christ talks about those who do the will of God,, living a life of righteous. Living according to the standards of God. by applying the teaching of Christ, and God to our daily life. Just from these two verse here we come to understand how we live will reflect when we come to the throne of God. depending on how live we will either face eternal punishment or will have eternal life with God. this allow us to move on to our next point for today.

Point 5: The Greatest Difference:

So from our main verse in John 3:16, we come to understand that there would have been a great tragedy for mankind if the verse had just end with perish. one word in our main verse makes the greatest difference for all. that word but and allowing the verse to end with everlasting life. because of how the word plays within the our main verse we come to understand the difference between what God wants his people to do, and those who chose to live a worldly life. this allow us to continue on with our last point for today.

Point 6: Have Eternal Life: The Greatest Promise:

As we finish off our main verse for today we come to understand that our main verse here in John 3:16 ends with a promise from God. John 3:16
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The last sentence within this verse state’s “Whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” From this statement within the verse we come to see the that God gives his greatest promise to mankind. The promise of eternal life with God himself. this not the only verse that makes this promise. lets look at some examples that we can see within the scriptures of God’s word. let’s turn in our bibles to Mk 10:30
Mark 10:28–31 NKJV
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
Just from this passage here within the gospel of Mark, we come see that Peter mention how he and the other disciples had given up on everything in order to follow Christ, then we come to see Christ response to Peter by explaining how they would they will not receive anything within the world but in the next life after. this allow us to look at another example which comes from the Gal 6:8
Galatians 6:8 NKJV
8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
From Galatians we come to see that Paul is reminding early Christians and the early church that it really comes back on how we live here on Earth. depending on our actions and how live either according to our desires or according to how God wants us to live. another example comes from 1st Tim 6:12
1 Timothy 6:12 NKJV
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
From this verse here in 1st Timothy we come to see that Paul is writing some encouraging words toward his young disciple. telling that about details of being a leader within the church, and reminding young Timothy about being Strong in walk with God, not wavering or losing faith because at the end of it all, those who do the will and obey God will have a life of with God. another example we come to look at comes from Tit 1:1-4
Titus 1:1–4 NKJV
1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, 3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior; 4 To Titus, a true son in our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
From this verse here we come to see that Paul is writing to another disciple, and reminding Titus about the Hope we should, the trust in God words. As Christians we Trust in Gods words and therefore understand that God does not lie to his people, but keeps his promise to his people. We see through the history of the Israelite people within the Old Testament, and how God had treated his people God care very much for mankind. this allow to look at Rev 21:1-4
Revelation 21:1–4 NKJV
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
From this passage here Revelation we come to see that John had a vision about the life after were we come to understand that those who do the will of God will spend eternity with God, and those who seek for themselves of their own passions and desires will spend eternity separated from God and Christ and love ones. As Christians come to have hope in these promise and we also understand that these promises are true because God keeps his promise to those who obey and trust God.
