The Healing of a Blind Man at Bethsaida
The Healing of a Blind Man at Bethsaida
And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him.
The place probably refers to Bethsaida Julias.
THE BLIND MAN
“And they bring a blind man to him.”
Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”
THE CURSE
The reason that Jesus placed a curse on Bethsaida is not because of the sinners in the city, but rather because of the spiritual condition of the Church!
REFORMATION
The church must have a reformation.
And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around.”
A MIRACLE
The miracle was of great magnitude.
Every miracle performed by Christ not only dealt with the issue at hand, but also dealt with a great spiritual problem.
Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly.
This instance at Bethsaida was the only instance of a gradual cure by Jesus.
SYMBOLIC OF A PROGRESSIVE WORK
This verse addresses the progressive work of sanctification carried out in the lives of all true believers.
We must look up to Jesus again and again in our progressive walk.
RESTORATION
The “restoration” is to be complete.
Why did Jesus touch the man a second time before he could see? This miracle was not too difficult for Jesus. Before Jesus left, the man was healed completely.
And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”
UNBELIEF
The mother of all evils is “unbelief;” it is useless to give evidence to unbelief.
SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS
Christ teaches us how great is the spiritual blindness of man.
The experiences of this blind man in gradually recovering his eyesight show as in a parable the stages of the spiritual change from absolute darkness to glimmering light.
LIGHT
If Light is rejected, darkness can be the only result!
The Holy Spirit is able to reach through the gloom of that night and awaken the Light. It is not easy at all to turn out the Light that God has hung up in one’s soul since infancy.
