Galatians 6: 15-18. New creation.
Intro:
I would like you to share with others what God has been teaching you threw the sermon series in Galatians.
Paul it ending the letter and is recapping what he wrote, to give a short recap overview:
Big headlines:
There is no other gospel (And people that teach that is accursed).
Justified by faith in Jesus Christ – not works of the Law,
Christ has set us free (don’t submit to slavery again)
Walk by the Spirt, (not the flesh),
Do good works,
Have a sober judgment about you self,
New creation.
Read the text:
Change’s people make to their body. (Why).
Some people get tatooes, some get botox, some get other kinds of modifications to the body, even circumcised, But why? What are people looking for? Upgrades, changes, no matter what changes we make to our body it does not change us to a new creation. Changes on our body does not change us on the inside.
Sometimes you might see what people are feeling on the inside, if people write it on the body, or make changes to the body. (I don’t like this part – or trends or fashion dictates another view of the body – I feel so bad, when I read about this, people having surgery so the look better on their phones, they would fit the times, butt, breasts etc). Mortifications/changes to feel better or please others. Even to fit in…
Jesus has a better way, it is not modifications it is new creation. Not a change of the flesh, but a making it new. That is done by Jesus by the Spirt. (- there is something much better, that is to be a new creation),
Not a better or the best version of you, (as the world would say today, self-improvement, self help). No, a new creation, born again.
Paul writes it does not matter if you are circumcised or not, it does not matter if you have Jewish descent or not. It matters what you believe about Jesus Christ. And Paul writes, short here, it is about being a new creation. Not a better one, not the best version of you self, no a new creation. (Again changing you body does not change you inside).
What does that mean, Paul it not making this up, Jesus was teaching this that People had to be born again, not of the flesh, but of the Spirt. This was not easy to understand even by some of the prominent Jewish leaders and teachers. PPT x 4
Jesus asks why do you not understand who I am? And how you need to believe in me to be a new creation – born of the Spirt? And Jesus goes on to explain what He came to do and how God love the world in sending Jesus and how people will respond to Jesus, some will go to the light and Jesus come to him, but others that like the darkness will stay in the darkness because the will not come to Jesus, they don’t what to believe in him but are instead condemned, by their own, actions and words. God send Jesus to save and redeem, that people could be made new a new creation, not only Jew, also Gentiel as Paul writes to the Galatians,
As Paul also wrote earlier 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
New creation not changing outward appearances, the born again by the Spirt, a new creation: a child of wrath to a child of God. By grace in believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and savior,
What are some of the reasons again to change our body?
Don’t like what we see, wanting to fit in, wanting to feel better, pressure from people, and our self,
But like religious works that does not changes us, on the inside, only the Spirt by faith in Jesus Christ does. We don’t have to love and embrace our self, and make us feel better that way, we can instead die to our self believe we have died with Christ, that the old is death and passed a way and we are a new creation. PPT red.
Why would that be good? It would set the bases for who we are in Christ. Not because of our worth but because of Jesus’ work. And the Spirt moving in us to see and understand Jesus’ life, death, resurrections and that he is coming back. It changes everything about who we are, and what we are. And makes it possible to live in Christ walk-in by the Spirt.
(No just alone but a new creation the church – the bride of Christ).
Paul ends the letter with blessings for the believers in Jesus Christ, Peace, and mercy,
Then a verse that has caused much speculation, and myths. Stigmata. – I would say Paul is just refering to the beatings and other maks he has got from persecution, (Again opposite of the other teachers that try to avoid it). An appeal to Paul’s service. (PPTS)
Grace out our Lord Jesus Christ be with your Spirt - - amen the end.
