SAINTS ADMONISH THE UNRULY

A loving attempt to correct another’s attitude or behaviour. Christians are to admonish fellow believers.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 NKJV
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.
A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, 3rd ed. (νουθετέω)
to counsel about avoidance or cessation of an improper course of conduct, admonish, warn, instruct
2 Thessalonians 3:11–13 NKJV
For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.
Romans 14:19 NKJV
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
Galatians 2:11–16 NKJV
Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews? We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

SAINTS COMFORT THE DISCOURAGED

1 Thessalonians 5:14 NKJV
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.
COMFORT MEANS TO CONSOLE OR CHEER UP
παραμυθία, ας, ἡ (παραμυθέομαι; Pla. et al.; ins, pap, LXX; TestSol 4:11 D π. τῶν θλιβομένων; JosAs ch. 11 cod. A [p. 54, 16 Bat.] τεθλιμμένων π.) that which serves as encouragement to one who is depressed or in grief, encouragement, comfort, consolation
2 Corinthians 1:5–7 NKJV
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.
Acts 11:22–23 NKJV
Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

SAINTS HELP THE WEAK

1 Thessalonians 5:14 NKJV
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.
TO HAVE A STRONG INTEREST IN, TO HELP
Romans 15:1–2 NKJV
We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.
This support denies yourself and it looks out for his or her Christian family member for their good which leads to edification.
Dictionary of Bible Themes
The building up and strengthening in the faith of believers and churches. Believers are strengthened by God and are urged, too, to build up one another. The church is edified through God’s word, through the Holy Spirit and the proper use of spiritual gifts, through the church’s appointed ministries and through the mutual love, support and encouragement of its members.
Acts 20:35 NKJV
I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Philippians 2:4 NKJV
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Romans 14:19 NKJV
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

SAINTS ARE PATIENT WITH ALL SAINTS

1 Thessalonians 5:14 NKJV
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.
1 Thessalonians 2:7-12 (NKJV)
1 Thessalonians 2:7–12 NKJV
But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us. For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God. You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
Ephesians 4:2 NKJV
with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
Ephesians 4:32 NKJV
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 5:1–2 NKJV
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

RIGHT ACTIONS

Colossians 3:16 NKJV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

RIGHT MESSAGE

Titus 2:3–5 NKJV
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
Titus 2:6–8 NKJV
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
James 1:2 (NKJV)
James 1:2 NKJV
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
1 Peter 4:12-13 (NKJV)
1 Peter 4:12–13 NKJV
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
Listen for preventive counsel
1 Samuel 25:27-31 (NKJV)
1 Samuel 25:27–31 NKJV
And now this present which your maidservant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord. Please forgive the trespass of your maidservant. For the Lord will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord fights the battles of the Lord, and evil is not found in you throughout your days. Yet a man has risen to pursue you and seek your life, but the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the Lord your God; and the lives of your enemies He shall sling out, as from the pocket of a sling. And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has done for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you ruler over Israel, that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. But when the Lord has dealt well with my lord, then remember your maidservant.”
