Key Concept: Worldview

Worldview- is the set of core beliefs that a person holds which determine how they interpret the world.
Most commonly illustrated as the “lense” through which you see the world. My glasses have lenses that help be see the world better. They bend the light so that the picture of my surroundings comes into focus. Thats what a worldview does. It changes your perspective on the world and reality. This is why if you ever travel you might find yourself experiancing culture shock. Different people with different worldviews will see the exact same thing and interpret it in drastically different ways.

Core Verse: Romans 12.2

Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Misconception: My Worldview has no bearing on my everyday life

This misconception is different from others that we have delt with. Rather than it being something that people activly believe incorrectly, it is a passive belief. Worldview as a topic in philosophy has gained some mainstream attention, in general it is something that people are ignorant about. They just don’t think about worldview, because they think it doesn’t matter.
They have the same thoughts as the rich man in Jesus’ parable in Luke 12.1-19
Luke 12:13–21 ESV
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” ’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
Many people go about thier lives thinking only about themselves, what they think and what they want is all that matters. Ever heard someone say. “you do you” or “let me do me”. If you never take the time to think about how you think about things, never question your own worldview then you will never have reason to grow.

Illumination: A Biblical worldview transforms the way we relate to all of life.

Through the Bible God has given us a way to view the world from His perspective. To answer the big questions of life not just based on what you have experianced, but according to what God knows to be true. Look back at our core verse again.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
This world seeks to conform you to its worldview, its way of thinking. They slip it into everything. The music you listen to, the movies you watch. The games you play, your social feed’s algorithm. Satan as the ruler of this world will try to get you to think his way. The world tells stories to get you to simpithize with sin, and indoctrinate you into faulty thinking.
Through scripture we renew our minds. Reprogram them if you will to see the world from God’s POV. Its easy to go with the crowd, to conform to what everyone else says is good, right, and acceptable. But just because something is easy doesn’t make it right. Just because the majority believes something to be true doesn’t make it fact. When we seek to do what is good, acceptable, and perfect before God, then we will automatically end up opposed to this world.
2 Corinthians 10:5–6 ESV
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Paul mentions destroying argumens and opinioins agians God, and taking every thought captive to obey Christ. To do that you have to examine your own worldview. Think through where you picked up your beleifs and ideas from, then compare those ideas to what is found in scripture. If they match and are consistant to God’s word awesome. If they are opposed to him, then take them captive and make war within your own mind and heart.
You can never do what is right with God with your hands, till you first get your mind and heart right with God.
