God wants you to become more like Jesus.

To become sanctified 1 Thess 4:3
1 Thessalonians 4:3 (NIV)
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified…
He uses all the things in your life to help you grow to be more like Christ. Your life is a personalized training program Rom 8:28-29
Romans 8:28–29 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Five Tools God uses to help you become more like Jesus

T - Trials

James 1:2–4 NIV
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
“Trials are situations designed by God to help us draw closer to him. They stretch our faith and grow our character.” - Rick Warren
Every problem has a purpose.
Application: It changes the way we look at trials
“Everything’s going wrong.”
“God is using this to help me grow. I’m going to trust him in this.”

R - Relationships with other Believers

Proverbs 27:17 NIV
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
My Missions Team

Make those friends your closest friends.

U - Understanding and applying the Bible

2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Process of learn and apply, learn and apply.
The Bible is our handbook for life
John 14:21 (MSG)
“The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that’s who loves me….
Application: Daily time with God

S - Sins against you

To teach us to forgive.
Ephesians 4:32 NIV
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Let me be perfectly clear: Sin does not please God.
Gospel “Christ forgave you”
Joseph’s story: Gen 50:20
Genesis 50:20 NIV
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

T - Temptation

“Temptations are situations designed by the devil to draw us away from God.” - Rick Warren
Matthew 4:1 NIV
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Who did the tempting?
Yet God uses it to teach us to obey.
It involves a choice: Evil or Obedience
It is a test of what we love more than God: Money, pleasure, status, sex, power.
“I couldn’t resist…” That’s actually a lie. 1 Cor. 10:13
1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
