“Standing in the Gap”

IN OBEDIENCE
“When you know your God by spending time with Him in prayer and His word and you're in relationship with Him you have the boldness to enter His presence and ask with bold prayers what and who you’re standing in the gap for like Abraham did when he rescued Lot.”
(Read Genesis 18 in the bible. When you land on verse 22-33 read and stay there And then go foward with what the Lord showed you below.)
Genesis 18:22–33 “Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the Lord. Abraham came near and said, “Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? “Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it? “Far be it from You to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?” So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place on their account.” And Abraham replied, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes. “Suppose the fifty righteous are lacking five, will You destroy the whole city because of five?” And He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” He spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose fort…”
Abraham had personal experiences with God and knew God’s faithfulness when He spared Isaac his son on the altar when He provided a sacrifice, He knew God’s voice when He told him all nations would be blessed by him. He knew God could do the impossible when He spoke and said Sarah would bear him a son at an old age. He knew God’s character and knew when he told it back to the Lord He would be who He is because God changes not. Lamentations 3:22–23 “The Lord’s loving kindnesses never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”
He knew from His personal experiences that God would answer his desperate plea when He was standing in the gap for Lot.
What do I mean when I say stand in the gap for someone? Standing in the gap is representing them before God on their behalf for what you’re praying for. Getting God’s attention.
Like Abraham's experience, I know this very well.
PRAYER & THE WORD
A Little after giving my life to God I learned how to pray to stand in the gap for my husband Nelsoon.
Nelson was addicted to drugs and bound. I was learning about this God I decided for and I learned how to pray and learned His word by desperately standing in the gap for my husband. I took the authority that I was learning in His word that I had in Christ and I came against the spirit that was holding him in captivity and I cried out to the Lord on Nelson’s behalf letting them know that they can’t have him, asking God for strength to set him free.
Like Abraham, I didn't do this only once but I sacrificed until the day he was set free which was one year and a half later. God gave me the patience to persevere and while I was persevering He was growing me in my intimacy with Him.
But this didn't only happen with Nelson. When you become a Christian you want to tell everyone about the good news, which I did with my family. But remember I was just learning so I went a little overboard with them going to hell!!
Praying and standing in the gap for my family God was faithful yet again when He saved my Dad and Mom.
So now I’m a lot older in the Lord and I experienced God through what He did in Nelson's life and the relationship and intimacy I have with Him
God is calling me to be obedient and trust that He’s speaking to me.
God spoke to me and said tell Nelson to go to the hospital to speak to your father.
So I did as God said. My Dad was in the hospital for a procedure. He was waiting to be discharged but the nurse went home so he was going to be discharged the following day at least that's what my dad thought and so did we, but that day never came.
All those prayers as I stood in the gap for my Dad that went up to God as the Angels kept them in a bowl was going to be answered that night.
Nelson listened to what I said God wanted from him ( If you ask he will give you his side of the story) When he saw my Dad he looked fine and Nelson started to question but God showed Him that it was Him when Nelson said his goodbyes and God stopped Him from moving forward then he knew God was about to do something! So He told my Dad Angie you've been running away from God for too long and my Dad agreed. Right there Nelson knew that the Lord was allowing him to water the seeds and God would give the increase. He prayed with my Dad my dad confessed with his mouth that he believed in his heart that Jesus is Lord. Nelson said his goodbyes and left.
God was so faithful not only to answer my prayers but to show my Dad mercy as He interceeded on His behalf. You see that night my Dad fell in the bathroom and went into a coma and when he was in a coma we had to make a hard decision to take him off the machine and ask God for His will to be done if he would heal him to serve God or if not to take him home. So he died the next Day. God knew He would say yes and receive Him and He knew He would call Him home.
Even when we don’t know what to pray the bible says in Romans 8:26 “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;”
So what is God speaking to You? Where or Who does He want you to stand in the gap?
