Are You Ready for Eternity?

Ecclesiastes 3:1–15 NKJV
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace. What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, And nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him. That which is has already been, And what is to be has already been; And God requires an account of what is past.

TIMES and Seasons

Everything has a SEASON
There is a TIME for every purpose
Our life has a God-given purpose
There is a beginning (birth)
There is an ending (death)

We will all die one day

Hebrews 9:27 NKJV
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
Are we living ready to stand before God and give account of our lives?
2 Corinthians 5:10–11 NKJV
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.

God has put eternity in our hearts.

We know that there is something beyond death.
That which is beyond is called “eternity.”
God inhabits eternity.

Have you considered eternity?

When people are on their deathbeds, they have two things on their minds: God and family and friends.
No one wishes they had spent more time at the office, out playing golf or fishing, or other pursuits.
People face death with joy or with regret, with peace or with turmoil, with readiness or with fear.
Have you considered that your life too will one day come to an end?
Have you considered that life consists of more than the possessions, power, and prestige we can gain in this life?
Are you counting your money or counting your days?
Psalm 90:12 NKJV
So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Have you invested in things that are eternal?

People? (Family, friends, needy, etc.)
Living a holy life that pleases God?
Doing the will of God that brings eternal rewards?
Obeying God’s condition for eternal salvation? (Romans 10:9-10)
