Introduction

Since we have begun this study in Romans Paul have told us many things that are indicative to who you and I are. What I mean is this, Paul has told us the way things are and not necessarily and imperatives for what you or I should do. Those imperative things will come in Chapter 12.
But, just because there are no commands does not mean there are no things to do. We must accept in our minds and hearts these things are in fact the way things. These are the way the world is.
Let us be reminded of the way things are in the life of the believer just in chapter 8 alone. Remember, that since the middle of chapter 3, Paul has been explaining the way things are for the believer. From chapter 1- the middle of chapter 3 is the way things for every person but when a person is justified things are different form those who are not justified.
Paul says, “ O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
There is no condemnation because you now follow the Holy Spirit.
In the Holy Spirit, you are made free from the law of sin and death.
There is a condition here in that you must follow the Holy Spirit.
To follow the flesh is to be carnally mind but to walk after the Holy Spirit is to be spiritually minded.
You must live in the mindset to follow God. You cannot follow your fleshly desire and be pleasing to God.
You cannot walk in the Spirit unless you have first given your whole life to Jesus Christ. Giving your life to Christ means to repent, to turn away from your sinful life. When you do that, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you and He gives you the desire to follow the commands of God.
We are adopted into the family of God. We are the children of God and join heirs with Jesus.
We can, like Paul, can come to the Father and cry out to Him to deliver us from the body of death.
The Holy Spirit lives in us to lead us in the right way, but your mindset must to follow and to please the Father.
The Holy Spirit of God makes intercession for you when your mind is set on following Him. You need the Holy Spirit because we still live in this sinful body. He is the only way we can overcome this sinful body.
Romans 8:31–35 KJV 1900
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

I am persuaded

All one word in Greek
Persuaded mean to be sure of something. It means to be fully convinced.
Paul says he is fully convinced that nothing can separate from the love of God. You must be fully convinced that nothing can separate you from the love of God.
John say the same thing a little differently.
1 John 3:19–21 KJV 1900
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
Our confidence is in God and not in the disposition of our heart.
Our heart condemns or does not, but our confidence is in God who is greater than our heart.
John says you must assure your heart with confidence that God is greater than our heart and your heart does change God’s love toward you.

This is a list of governing things that you may think will separated you from the love of God. I say governing things because they do have power to control your thinking and the direction of your life.

These powerful things are set against the love of God. They try to separate us from the love of God.

You must remember that you must follow the Holy Spirit of God.

Death

It is interesting that death is the first on this list of things that can separate us from the love of God.
You may ask, why is this first on the list?
Think about what is death? Death is God’s judgement for sin.
Now we have God’s justice separating us from God’s love.
This is where you are. This is where I am. You are separated from God’s love because of God’s justice. I am separated from God’s love because of God’s justice. That is just the way it is because of our sin nature and our actual sin.
You are separated from God’s love except for God’s love.
You understand that God’s love is infinite but God justice can be satisfied with a perfect sacrifice.
That is why the Bible says you are dead in trespasses and sins. You and I are dead people walking because our sin.
What is my sin? What is your sin? I do not love God with all my heart, soul, and mind. And, I do not love my wife, children, my friends, and my neighbor as myself. You do not love in the same way.
This is Paul struggle with the flesh in chapter seven. Let read it together again.
Romans 7:18–25 KJV 1900
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

But there is Life after death

You and I are dead because of God’s justice toward sin but God justice is satisfied in Jesus because of God’s love.
Romans 5:8 KJV 1900
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
You see, if you and I follow God’s plan we can have our sins for given.
What is God’s plan? Two things you must do if you do not do these two things you will be at fault for spending eternity in the pits of hell. Hell is where you are punished for your life of sin.
You must flee from from your sin not denying that your are sinner but fleeing your sin because you are a sinner. You flee to God. You must run to God in your heart and mind to cry out for forgiveness because you do not have the ability to earn forgiveness any other way. This is the first of the two things you must do, repent.
The second thing you must do is believe. What do you believe? You believe Jesus died for your sin and God raised him from the dead for your salvation.

When you have given your life to Jesus Christ, death will not separate you from the love of God.

I urge you to turn to Jesus for your salvation now.
God commands you to repent. God commands you to believe.
