Have you ever had someone talk bad to you to your face?
Have you ever had some one give you complements?
Which one made you feel better?
I once had someone that I was close to tell me that I was worthless
it hurt
I once had a teacher I really looked up to tell me that I had a gift and it felt great
Today we are wrapping up our series
first week
We talked about not bowing to the god of our wallet
We talked about generosity of our serving
Last week we talked about generosity of forgiveness
Today we are going to talk about generosity of encouragement
Hebrews 10:24–25 NIV
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Let’s break this down just a bit
Hebrews 10:24 NIV
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
Here the author of Hebrews to telling us to “consider”
This verses is showing us that we need to be looking out for one another
Think about, consider gives the notion that it is not just something that happens and we react, it is intentional
we are being proactive, not reactive
we are to being helping others do what??

Love and Good Deeds

What does this mean, well we are to encourage one another towards Christ and others
To love God and Christ more,
to be encouragement towards holiness
to love one another more
To find passion in following God
Let me ask this
If I were to tell you that there is no way for you to follow Christ, you will fail, would you be more drawn to these things?
How about if I were to tell you that, You are not lone, we are with you, you got this, hey read this verse, I am praying for you and so on
Which one will help you towards the things of God?
Hebrews 10:25 NIV
not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Meeting together
Encouragement and accountability are some of the biggest helps we have and you know if you are not meeting together you will not get these things and you will have a harder time serving God than with being apart of the fellowship.
I used to love rock climbing it is so much fun and you know you can go without a rope, You might be ok climbing without a rope,
Much like our walk, we might be ok on our own,
watching church on TV, or our phones, but BUT
what happens in rock climbing if you slip? well PANCAKE
we are good until we are not and than we need that rope that is the fellowship of the Church.
To look at it from a different prospective, how are you to help someone if you are not here, “Let us consider how we may spur one another.
You might have the answer the word to say to someone that needs it but if you are not here fellowshipping with one another, how can you help those who might need it.
The New International Version (Chapter 10)
but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
We need to be encouraging each other. we need to be helping one another in this way.
So many times today Christians are quick to argue and slow to encourage
people might think a different way than us and we are so quick to tell them they are wrong, but our heart is not one of encouragement but one of I AM RIGHT, Just ask my wife I am guilty of this too
This is place for correction and it is a necessary part of encouragement but when we are quick to speak and slow to listen this creates a problem
How many of you helped your dad fix something??
How many of you messed up the instructions?
when I was a kid, I would mess up and instead of my dad walking me through my mistake he would push me out of the way, tall me I was wrong and fix it himself, NO learning
When we have this attitude encouragement is gone and just frustration is left
How do we encourage one another?

Speak Life Giving Words

Using our words to uplift and strengthen others is a key way to offer encouragement. Speaking with kindness and wisdom helps build others up.
Ephesians 4:29 NIV
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Proverbs 16:24 NIV
Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Support Each Other’s Faith

Encouraging each other in faith, especially during difficult times, helps people stay grounded in their walk with God and strengthens the community of believers.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Hebrews 3:13 NIV
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

Carry Each Other’s Burdens

Offering Prayer, practical help, and emotional support is a form of encouragement that reflects Christ's love. Being there for someone in need, whether spiritually, emotionally, or physically, brings comfort and strength.
Galatians 6:2 NIV
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Romans 12:15 NIV
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
We are not in this alone, we need each other YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Today there is so much discouragement that being an encourager might be the difference for someone

Communion

Luke 22:19–20 NIV
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
