This Week’s Theme: Purposed Lived
Word for the Week is Filled with the Spirit: To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be energized and controlled by the third person of the Godhead in such a way that under the acknowledged lordship of Jesus Christ the full presence and power of God are experienced. Spirit-filling leads to renewal, obedience, boldness in testimony and an arresting quality in believers’ lives.
Memory verse: Ephesians 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
Sermon Focus: We live out our purpose as we are led and filled with the Spirit
Sermon Passage: Galatians 5:16-26
Galatians 5:16–26 NKJV
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
INTRODUCTION: THE AIM OF LIVING THE APOSTLE PAUL WROTE TO A CHURCH THAT WAS INFILTRATED BY LEGALISTIC JEWS WHO TAUGHT THAT WORKS WERE NEEDED FOR SALVATION. THEY TOLD THE CHURCH THAT THEY HAD FOLLOW THE CEREMONIAL LAWS AND OTHER RULES TO BE SAVED. THIS THOUGHT WAS JUXTAPOSED TO THOSE THAT FELT THAT CHRIST HAD GIVEN THEM A LICENSE TO SIN. THESE OPPOSING VIEWS DID NOT LEAD TO PEACE BUT CAUSED PROBLEMS.
PAUL STATED IN GAL 5:13

Colossians 3:5–8 NKJV
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. 8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
(NKJV)
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
1 Peter 2:11 (NKJV)
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech [you] as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Galatians 5:22–26 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
