Ancestry I.D.

You have a dual genetic identity.

You have a natural genetic identity and a spiritual genetic identity.
Genesis 1:27–28 NKJV
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Last week: Becoming more like Dad.

1) We imitate the one to whom we believe we belong.

2) It becomes natural to walk in the nature of the Father when we truly identify as His children.

Today: Our Spiritual Inheritance

Ephesians 1:15–18 NKJV
15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Ephesians 1:15–18 NKJV
15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Paul prayed very specific things:

1) Spirit of Wisdom, Revelation and Understanding

Proverbs 1:7 NKJV
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 9:10 NKJV
10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Revelation = ἀποκάλυψις [κᾰ], εως, ἡ, uncovering, of the head, Phld.Vit.p.38 J.; disclosing, of hidden springs, Plu.Aem.14: metaph., ἁμαρτίας Id.2.7 of; revelation, esp. of divine mysteries, Ep.Rom.16.25, etc.; of persons, manifestation, 2Ep.Thess.1.7, etc.; title of the Apocalypse. - Henry George Liddell et al., A Greek-English Lexicon (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1996), 201.
Romans 16:25 (NKJV)
25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began
Romans 16:26–27 NKJV
26 but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith— 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.
1 Corinthians 2:6–16 (NKJV)
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.
16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

2) The Hope of His Calling

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV
9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,
The Hope
1 Peter 2:10 NKJV
10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

We have obtained mercy.

1 Corinthians 1:9 NKJV
9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

We have fellowship with Jesus.

Matthew 28:20 NKJV
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

All things work out for our benefit.

Romans 8:28 NKJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

3) The riches of His glorious inheritance.

Inheritance is used in the Bible 210 times!

In the Old Testament - Double Portion - Mentioned previously in this series
The oldest receives double.
Being heirs of God is one part of our inheritance but being a joint-heirs with Christ is yet another. The Greek word for joint-heirs is same word as heirs above but with ‘syn’ in front ‘klēronomeō’ which adds to the meaning ‘joint’ or ‘co-receivers’ of an inheritance,; a joint or co-beneficiary. - “What Does It Mean to Be a Joint Heir with Jesus?” - emeryhorvath.com
Romans 8:16–17 NKJV
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

We share in His favor.

Romans 8:31–32 NKJV
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

We share in His calling.

2 Corinthians 5:17–18 NKJV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
2 Corinthians 5:19 NKJV
19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

We share in His glorification.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 NKJV
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
1 Thessalonians 4:17–18 NKJV
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Corinthians 15:53–55 NKJV
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
1 John 3:2–3 NKJV
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
