DECLARATION:
Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Our church family is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, and we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit.
We are reaching out to our family, friends, and neighbors as the body of Christ.

INTRODUCTION:
Review:
WHY?…
Recommended Study: In preparation for this sermon, deepen your understanding of verbal, plenary inspiration by studying the historical evidence and theological implications of this doctrine in your Logos library. Explore the concept of inspiration in different biblical genres and reflect on how the inspiration of Scripture applies to your personal life and ministry.
TODAY: The Bible is divinely inspired and written by people led by the Holy Spirit.
It is authoritative and beneficial for every believer's walk with God.
Opening Scripture:
Revelation
Revelation
General Revelation: Psalm 19:1 “1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”
Special Revelation:
1 Corinthians 1:18 “18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:11 “11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”
Means: The Bible
Agent: The Holy Spirit
Inspiration
Inspiration
1. Breathed By God
1. Breathed By God
2 Timothy 3:16 “16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
5 Directives in 2 Timothy (From PAI):
Directive 1: Stir up the gift (1:6–18)
Directive 2: What you heard from me commit to others (2:1–13)
Directive 3: Call to mind these things (2:14–3:9)
Directive 4: Remain in what you learned (3:10–17)
Example of Paul (3:10–12)
Negative counterexamples (3:13)
Remain in what you learned (3:14–15)
The benefit of Scripture (3:16–17)
Directive 5: Proclaim the word (4:1–8)
2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV) “16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
“breathed out” (Theos/God & Pneuma/spirit/breath) = inspired by God
Imagine a skilled conductor leading an orchestra, making sure every musician plays their part at the right time. That's similar to how God inspired every word in the Bible, ensuring each one serves a purpose.
“verbal, plenary inspiration”
Every word is inspired in its original autographs was breathed out by God
God’s speech - always truthful - always profitable
Biblical Inspiration is not…
Natural inspiration - nothing supernatural, like any other book
Spiritual illumination - any devout Christian can author Scripture while illuminated by the H.S.
Partial inspiration - only the parts of faith and practice are inspired while history, science, and non-faith matters may be in error.
Conceptual inspiration - concept are inspired by not the words (Matthew 5:18 “18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.”…iota/yod was smallest hb. letter and dot was simply a small marking )
Divine dictation - passively written as mere secretaries (God used the style of the individual)
John 8:47 “47 Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.””
2. Equipped for Every Good Work
2. Equipped for Every Good Work
2 Timothy 3:17 “17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
“complete” = mature (i.e. sanctification)
Picture a builder with a toolbox filled with all the necessary tools. In the same way, God equips us with the spiritual tools we need for every good work through His Word.
3. Guided by The Word & the Holy Spirit
3. Guided by The Word & the Holy Spirit
Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit we can trust in the authority and inspiration of the Scriptures to lead us in faith and life, ultimately pointing us to Christ.
2 Peter 1:21 “21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
Source & Agent: God - The Holy Spirit
Instrument: people under the guidance of the H.S.
Just as a hiker follows a trail map and relies on a sturdy walking stick, we can follow the guidance of the Bible and depend on God's grace as our spiritual support on life's journey.
The Holy Spirit guides us as we open God’s Word
Conclusion/Reflection:
2 Timothy 4:2 “2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”
APPLICATION: Share personal testimonies of how the Bible has transformed has shaped your beliefs. Use these stories as a powerful witness to the truth and power of God's Word.
I often wondered how different my life would be if I had not discovered the Bible's wisdom on decision-making. Through a storied scenario, I illustrated to a group of young adults the potential impact of God's Word in shaping our beliefs and choices.
Talk It Over
Talk It Over
How does 1 Timothy 3:16 explain the concept of 'verbal, plenary inspiration' in relation to the Bible?
In 2 Timothy 3:17, what analogy is used to describe how God equips believers for every good work through His Word?
In John 8:47, what reasons are given for why some people do not hear the words of God?
In what ways can believers rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as mentioned in the sermon, to deepen their faith and understanding of the Bible?
In what ways can believers demonstrate the authority and inspiration of the Scriptures in their interactions with others, as highlighted in the sermon?
