INTRO:
Prophetic Word: from Urban Outreach Founder Jay Covert:
All 9 Gifts of Holy Ghost are not for just the pastor and his staff. These gifts belong to those that are Jesus Followers. If churches would just become like the pattern of The Church of Acts then growth will come into the churches. People have been made so comfortable that spiritually they are dead with no life to give to others in need. Churches that are Holy Ghost driven with The Gifts of Holy Ghost and The Five Fold ministries in action are the churches that will grow in the next few years. Because people are hungry for much more then flashing lights, stage fog machines and watered down preaching so not to offend people. Preachers we better be training our people for survival mode on Holy Ghost because if Jesus does not return soon 2025 will be a chaotic, crazy time of major trials and darkness. There is going to be utter chaos like you have need seen. While all that craziness is going on, people will be searching and seeking for churches that operate and move in The Power of God. Churches that don't move in The Power of God will empty out and those churches will eventually have to file bankruptcy.
EX. Abraham Lincoln - was turned off by the craziness of the tent revivals and people’s flesh. News reporters would go to the tent meetings just to laugh and get material for their reporting. They were entertained by the chaos
I want to share my heart on the Gifts in operation…
Mount Hope - everyone fell out I did not (only one on stage standing, and it was televised.)
In 1997, our Youth group went to the Brownsville Revival, (it was powerful!). But it felt like we tried to remanufacture revival and results in our return. Revival belongs to God.
We have to be careful that we don’t adopt a anti-supernatural world view concerning the things of God.
People are weird and churches can be weird; the Holy Spirit is NOT!
We judge our ministry by the response to our ministry, rather than our faithfulness to the Word of God! - Allen Tennison

Romans 4:16 NLT
16 So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.
Galatians 3:5 NLT
5 I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.
EX. Benny Hinn Crusade in 1996 - everyone fell in the choir which I struggled with, but my arms did go numb when he called for those feeling the call of God to raise both hands to heaven and your hands will go numb to reassure you of the calling.
We receive Salvation by faith
We receive from the Holy Spirit by faith
We pray in the Spirit by faith
We walk by faith not by sight, not by natural explanation (5 senses)
TEXT:
1 Corinthians 12:1–11 (NLT)
1 Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this.
2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols.
3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.
5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.
6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.
9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.
10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.
11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
9 Spiritual Gifts:
Wisdom for advice
Word of Knowledge
Faith
Healing,
Miracles,
Prophecy,
Discernment
Kinds of Tongues
Interpretation of Tongues
3 of the gifts are oral. They say something.
Prophecy, Tongues, Interpretation

Faith, Miracles, Healing
3 of the gifts are revelatory gifts. They reveal something.
Wisdom, Knowledge, Discernment
1 Corinthians 12:31 NLT
31 So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.
THE PURPOSE OF THE GIFTS
These are free Gifts of God! Because it’s free we can’t earn it, because it’s God’s gift we can’t control it. - Dr. Allen Tennision
A. To edify. To build up the Christian and the church. Always keep in mind, these gifts are to advance God’s work.
B. To encourage. They are to encourage the Christian in every phase of their lives. (Spiritual Charging & Power)
C. To enlighten. They help the Christian know right from wrong. Since Satan is supernatural and has power to deceive, we need a supernatural power to understand the true from the false. (Revelation)
D. To educate. These gifts can educate even the illiterate, as they are used for God’s glory. (Intercession)
E. To expose. These gifts will help us expose false spirits and religions. (Magnification)
God has placed these nine gifts in the church to be used to advance the kingdom of God.
They are not to be used for selfish reasons. When God entrusts any of these gifts to a person, that person should not feel spiritually superior.
That is why they are given by the Holy Spirit. We can’t attain a level of Holiness that makes them available because we deserve them.
No one has all the gifts and He distributes the proper ones to each person as He sees fit.
THE PERSONALITY OF THESE GIFTS
A. Spiritual gifts vs. natural gifts.
Natural gifts are for personal help and enjoyment.
Spiritual gifts are to share by helping others.
B. Spiritual gifts vs. fruit of the spirit. Fruit grows; gifts are given.
Spiritual gifts are given by God to those whom He knows will use them for His honor and glory. At times they are given to the most unlikely people. However, only God knows the hearts and minds of men.
THE POWER OF THESE GIFTS
A. Power to discern.
Spiritual gifts help us discern God’s will and way.
They also help us discern the nature of a problem, as well as a way to solve that problem.
B. Power to denounce and destroy.
Spiritual gifts are backed by the power to denounce the powers of sin, Satan, and sickness.
Some fear the gifts of the Spirit because of past experiences with misuse of the gifts. God has a plan and purpose as to how these gifts are to be given and used. God will give these gifts to those who will use them for His glory.
CONCLUSION:
2 Gifts God wants to give us all:
1. Salvation
Romans 1:17 NLT
17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”
2. Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Romans 1:11 NLT
11 For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord.
