T minus 10

Being a kid in the 70’s meant you had 3 channels on the TV, you were the remote control and if there was a major event, it was on all the channels.
Several of those events were NASA rocket launches.
They would show the astronauts getting into the vessel, they would show the crows of people gathered and the rockets at they started unhooking hoses and cables.
They would flash to a counter every once in a while as they played the audio of the NASA workers going through the GO/NO GO sequence:
Booster: go
Guidance: go
Surgeon: go
Control: go
Houston we a re a go for launch:
10, 9, 8, 7……..
Other countdowns:
Christmas
Birthday
School being out
Sturgis
With each countdown, we have our own checklist: Go/No Go.
Christmas: list of people to buy for.
Martye’s Vacation: Passport, money, tickets, packing (no, but there is still some time before that has to be done)
What if I told you, the most important countdown of your life is going. Has Europe started playing in anyone’s head yet?
And there is a Go/No Go checklist, but you don’t know how long is on the clock!
Days or decades. minutes or a millennia.

Day of the Lord

2 Peter 3:10–18 NASB95
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Thief in the night

As soon as you heard the phrase, “Thief in the night” some of you started mentally flipping pages in your bible to Thessalonians or Revelation.
Gene thought alright! now were talking
Anessa probably thought, why do you have to get him started?
The rest of you are thinking, “I don’t have the bandwidth to to deal with end times prophecy this morning.”
This passage is not about end times prophecy
This passage is about what your life should look like knowing that the end of times will come!

What should we look like?

Vs. 11 Since its all going to be destroyed,

Holy in your conduct and godliness

Your behavior matters! What you do matters! What I do matters!
When Jesus said in Matthew 5, that if you look at a woman with lust, you have already commited adultery in your heart, He was not advocating going out an committing adultery since you already are guilty of it in your heart.
He was emphasizing that we are all guilty of sin and in need of a savior!
But being saved isn’t a license to sin!
The opposite is true, being saved means you are freed from sin, so don’t!

Look forward to the Day of the God

There are things I want to do and want to go see before all this comes to an end. I don’t know if I will get to do them all, but let me say this:
If you were offered a trade between having everything this world has to offer from now until the day you die, or the return of Christ today, which would you choose?
I don’t know if I’m ready

Hastening the day of God

Eagerly praying for it to come,
Matthew 24:14 NASB95
14 “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Are you participating in that effort?
IN LINE WITH PAUL
Revelation 20:11–13 NASB95
11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
Imagine being in this line:
Saul of Tarsus….Paul
DUDE: I know you!
whipped with 39 lashes (5 different times)
beaten with rods (3 different times)
pummeled with stones (1 time)
shipwrecked (3 times)
adrift at sea (one night, one day)
all the journeys, the letters the sleepless nights, being hungry and cold all for the spread of the Gospel.
Paul: When you say it that way, it sounds like a lot…I’m sure you have some of the same stories; tell me what you did for the kingdom.

Be diligent

to be found by him in
Peace: one of those things that you either have or you don’t.
It is not possible to have the Holy Spirit living inside of you AND have unresolved sin in your life AND be at peace.
BE spotless and blameless
Jesus made you that way when you were saved.
2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB95
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Now we must pursue it:
2 Timothy 2:22 NASB95
22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
When did you say He was coming?
Patience of our Lord = Salvation.
I don’t know how much time we have, but we have now.
2 Corinthians 6:2 NASB95
2 for He says, At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”—
If you are not ready, get ready, if you are ready, stay ready.
stubbornly hold onto what is true.
don’t be fooled by so called Christian people with their own agenda.
Grow in the Grace and Knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
