“Perfect Posture”

recap
lets read our passage
Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
idk but i feel maybe a few of us, maybe not, need to be straightened up this morning….come on...
talk about passage
The story of healing this woman is unique to Luke.
It reveals the unfruitfulness of the nation of Israel to which Jesus’ parable of the unfruitful tree alludes (in the previous passage, see 13:6–8).
Instead of finding love, justice, humility, and mercy among God’s people, Jesus found an arrogance that didn’t even allow healing a woman on the Sabbath, the day set aside for the God of mercy.
The Jewish leaders had perverted God’s law so much that they were using it as an excuse to squelch compassion and godliness, instead of as a tool to promote a love of God and others.
Their hypocrisy was evident, and Jesus plainly said so (as he had previously, 12:56).
Jesus exposes the same type of hypocrisy today. Christians should always be careful to never use religion as an excuse to judge others.
Instead, Christians need to show love and mercy to other people, no matter who they are.
tell story of being the right posture to roll in jujitsu
lets dive in this morning
Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.
so the first thing we can see is this is a different day. on the sabbath in the synagogue…speak on this
preach on this
oh boy idk if your ready this morning
ok ok ok lets look at what next…
When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
preach…
i debated just staying right here, because whether we want to admit it or not i think many of us, me included, are bent over we are doubled over and it has affected our quality of life the quality of our relationship with God far to long…
there is freedom
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
but once we have been set free what do we do??
And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
she glorified God, she praised him…
her first reaction was not to run and jump in the river, it wasn't to go play with friends, it wasn't to go work and gather money, no she Praised God…
we get the answer we were praying for and then turn right back to whatever it was we were doing before
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
tall about not being burdened again…(being unburdened by what has been)
we saw the perfection, jesus doing what jesus does…displaying love, mercy, grace, goodness, Godliness,
we saw her response
but then theres a problem…
14-17 show us that problem
im going to conclude here…
But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”
speak on this…
we see jesus reaction
Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”
speak on this…
a lot of people like to say well jesus rebelled against the law he was a rebel so that why i dont have to obey the law…
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
speak on this…
the vail wall, was being broken people were starting to see past the facade the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and religious leaders and started rejoicing and praising Jesus for what he was doing…
lets stand this morning…
go back to talking about being doubled over
tell story of father son and friend fishing trip
preach it
romans 6.22
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
PREACH IT
HOLY SPIRIT TAKEOVER….
