Ex. 17:1-7
The people were traveling from one place to the next according to God’s command. v1
There was no water to drink so the people complained to Moses. “Give us water to drink” v2 This was not the first time they came to a place with no water. Ex. 15:22-27 God tested them there, if they obeyed God, He would not inflict with illnesses. He declares He is the God who heals.
Why did they think Moses could give them water? Who did they think Moses was? Moses even said Why are you complaining to me? Complain - express dissatisfaction or annoyance about something.
and in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your grumbling against the Lord. For what are we, that you grumble against us?”
When the people didn’t have what they need in front of them they complained and were angry at their leader who in himself had no ability to give them what they needed.
Moses didn’t know what to do. v4. God directed.
The people complained to Moses vs Moses cried to God.
What is the difference between complaining and crying?
Complaining - Is not asking for what you need, but upset you don’t have what you need. Complaining is selfish. Thinking you deserve something. Entitled/Prideful
Crying - Is asking for help to provide what you need. Humble
Despite their complaints God provided because of His promise to be with Moses as he leads the people.
