An apple that looks good on the outside but has a rotten heart is no good. God cares more about a person's heart than what they look like on the outside. In Matthew ch 5 v 27 onwards, Jesus continues burrowing down to our hearts, as he discusses adultery. God's not content with people who are just "faithful" and "pure" on the outside; he wants to create people with truly faithful and pure hearts.
