Seven references to the Old Testament. What does this teach us about how we ought to view the Old Testament today?
It is vital, and the Word of God.
It is completely harmonious with the New Testament
We should commit ourselves to reading and loving it.
It is all about Jesus (Luke 24:44). How does this change how we read the Old Testament? (we must always seek Christ in the text)
What does it mean for Jesus to be superior to the angels?
He is in a different class than the other heavenly beings
What do the Old Testament references teach us about Jesus?
The first two: Jesus is God’s son, begotten of the Father. He enjoys a special, unique relationship to God the Father.
The third: He receives worship from the angels. What does this necessarily imply?
Fourth and Fifth: Angels are formidable beings that do God’s bidding, but the Son is literally called God and is given the entire Kingdom to rule over.
Sixth: Jesus is creator of all things and is unchangeable
Seventh: Jesus rules at the right hand of the Father and will continue to reign for all time.
Altogether: The only proper conclusion to all of these passages being applied to Jesus is: Jesus is God himself, the eternal Son who is coequal with the Father and Spirit in glory and power.
