Read Romans 1:18-32
Romans 1:18–32 ESV
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

The truth about God

Read Romans 1:18-23
Romans 1:18–23 ESV
The righteous shall live by faith and the unrighteous by supressing truth
Paul is going to start by diagnosing the human condition
His goal here is to get his reader to understand the first part of the gospel
That we are lost without God
That as unbelievers we live a life opposed to God
So look how he starts
Romans 1:18 ESV
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
The wrath of God is against all ungodliness and unrighteousness
Men will initially choose to supress the truth
Especially inconvient truth
This is the story of the bible from genesis to know
Did God really say
You will surely not die
Push the truth down so we can do what we want
We do this often of you really think about it
Sometimes we choose to not believe something because it is painful
because we dont like it
because we want to do something else
This is the natural state of heart
and this is pauls indictment of men
We supress the truth in our unrighteouness
lest anyone say well i dint know paul submits his evidence against the
Romans 1:19–21 ESV
19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
We know the truth but choose not believe it
Choose to supress it why????
Because we would rather be god
Again back to the first lie you will not die rather you will be like god
We supress the truth because if God isnt God we arent held to his righteouseness rather we are God and we will be held to our own standard of righteousness
Where does that take us?????
False claims of wisedom
Foolish wisdom
Romans 1:22–23 ESV
22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
The experts call us to worship the creation rather than the creator
Where does that take us

The Scariest Truth About God

Given enough time God will give us exactly what our heart desires
Look at this
Romans 1:24–32 ESV
God gives them up
Now we come from this indicment paul makes about men
To a specific example that was happening in rome at that time
but obviously this is somethign still happening
When you think about what seems to be polite societies mandate what are we to believe
What are we give obesence too
That love is love
what people do his up to them
Society has supressed the truth of god
it has pushed away his righteousness and exchanged it with their own
They have infact exchanged the truth about God for a lie
And God has seen fit to give them the desires of their heart
There is a warning and comfort here for us
The warning what are the desires of your heart
What is it that you most want
The righteousness of God
Or the unrighteousness of the world
We must be so careful satan can make it seems like the world is so right
We must understand God’s word
Understand that through faith we can attain his righteousness
this is a warning if we are deceived by the world
this is our status
if we don’t see fit to acknowledge the righteousness of God
Romans 1:28–31 ESV
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
This is where a heart that loves the world more than God will lead
But there is hope
nothing in this world is new
when I read Roman’s 1 i have hope for us
