Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Lay aside- renounce, put off
Romans 13:12 (NKJV)
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
Ephesians 4:22 (NKJV)
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
Ephesians 4:25 (NKJV)

Once one has been born again we shouldn’t be enslaved by evil.
We shouldn’t prefer things that have no existence to that which truly exist.
When it comes to substance in this life only Christ His holiness actually has eternal reward.
Evil would convince one that it truly has substance but its end is deceit and deficient.
Once one has been born again we shouldn’t be ensnared by evil. We shouldn’t prefer things that have no existence over that which truly exist.
For evil is not a substance but merely clings to substances as if it were part of them.
See lust masquerades as love. But it doesn’t produce produce the fruit of love.
Deceit masquerades as truth, but it doesn’t produce the substance of truth.
Evil clings to substances as if its apart of them.
But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
Evil clings to substances as if its apart of them.
Peter is saying deceit and pretense is the exact opposite of what was preached to you.
PJ Everything in verse 1 are forms of cravings. But our craving should be of the word of God.
as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
For it is not possible to advance toward purity, or toward maturity in understanding, or toward adulthood as a worker approved by God, unless you renounce evil and become like an innocent child
That you may grow thereby- When you think about growth as a church leader you think about numerical growth. The growth of the church in regards of numerical
But two of the most important aspects of grow are spiritual maturity and development of the whole fellowship into a loving family.
1 Peter 2:4 (NKJV)
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,
1 Peter 2:5 (NKJV)
you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Christ as a living stone and so are we this speaks of the unity we have in Christ.
1 Peter 2:6–7 (NKJV)
Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”
You have the precious stone which speaks of beauty and the cornerstone which speaks of integrity.
You have beauty and security.
The Cornerstone sets all the angles of all the other stones.
The cornerstone is the most prominent stone and beautiful stone.
