Some form of the word joy is found 3,541 times in the Bible - that’s almost 10 times for every day of the year!
Joy must be important in God’s eyes!
Isaiah 12:3 NKJV
Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation.
joy = cheerfulness
wells = spring, fountain, source
salvation = yeshua! to be open, wide or free, i.e. (by impl.) to be safe; causat. to free or succor (aid or give assistance to)
Dr. Carol Dweck
Fixed mindset vs. Growth mindset
Growth Mindset - When people believe they can get better, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement.
Do you have a growth mindset?
If you don’t believe you can get water out of a well, would you even try?
Isaiah 12:3 NKJV
Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation.
Is joy a condition of the heart or is joy the bucket?
Maybe it is both!
Nehemiah 8:10 NKJV
Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
If you don’t think that the devil is after your joy, you don’t know your enemy!
The 7 Dwarves had it right - Whistle while you work!
When we don’t have joy, we don’t have strength and we don’t have a bucket!
John 4:11 NKJV
The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?
I’m going to give you a bunch of amazing things that God says today because Faith comes to our heart when we hear God’s Words
I’m also going to tell you THE truth because THE truth makes us free
Would you open your heart and receive the truth from God’s Word?

Joy is a Choice:

I’m going to say something that is going to shock and maybe cause great questioning in a bunch of us here today
Salvation through Jesus Christ should affect every area of our life - even our personality!
I have found that:
Many people to want God to change their eternity, but not their choices, finances, or personality.
Romans 8:29 NKJV
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Hebrews 1:9 NKJV
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”
gladness = great joy
God didn’t make some people to not have joy!
Romans 14:17 NKJV
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Luke 17:20–21 NKJV
Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
I find it interesting that most Christians will fight to have Peace & Even righteousness…but if someone is encouraged to be joyful and exhibit joyfulness we are now invading the sacred shrine of personality.
Some of us have lost our joy - I’m positive that we had great joy at some point in our life - maybe the last time you had joy was before you had teeth…but you did have joy.
Life can stomp joy out of us if we don’t know how to keep it.
Some people are even bothered by people who have great joy.
There’s even a stigma that people who have a lot a joy are not professional or cannot be taken seriously- They are just ignorant buffoons or bumbling idiots - so we contain or eliminate our joy.
If we refuse to be joyful, we are choosing weakness & throwing away our bucket to draw out of the wells of salvation.
2 Corinthians 8:12 NKJV
For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.
Luke 13:20–21 NKJV
And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Faith is a choice:

Participating in the Kingdom of God takes a lifestyle of faith.
Living by faith is a choice!
Hebrews 10:38 NKJV
Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Faith is not a feeling - Faith is a substance.
Hebrews 11:1 NKJV
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Romans 5:2 NKJV
through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
When we live by faith, we get access to grace!
Grace is:
Unmerited favor from God
God’s Divine Ability
The Divine impression on the heart and its reflection in the life

Just One Thing:

Choose to walk by faith by having and exhibiting joy. Tell your face too!

Discussion Questions:

What’s something that will always be in fashion, no matter how much time passes?
Pastor Jake said that God wants to affect even our personality through salvation - What is your response to that statement? Share 2-3 scriptures that give you this response.
Please read Nehemiah 8:10 and Philippians 4:4 and share what these verses mean and say to you.
On a scale from 0-10 (0 = none - 10 = maximum amount) how much joy do you walk in and exhibit on a day to day basis?
