John 5:36....A witness of His work..

Psalm 16:8 “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.”

Introduction..

Seeing is believing...
but haven’t we seen or witnessed enough already...
Jesus has done so much already
God has done so much already...
everyone should be witness and have a testimony on what they have witnessed when it comes to the goodness of God
no one can tell your story, you have first hand knowledge on the works that Christ has worked in your life...
and when it comes to spreading the good news it is better when comes from a witness..
think about…if someone told you about something they have done but there is no witness or proof..
will you believe them..TALK,PREACH.....
as we will see when we go deeper into the text, Jesus could have just said what He could do or what He had done in private but HE broke it down and provided some key witnesses to the people...
as a body of believers, who know what Christ has done for us..
we have a duty to witness to a sin sick world on the works of Christ..
you might just help someone..
As I try to go deeper in the ministry, a discipline, i am trying to stay in is Apologetics, defending my faith...
and being a witness is one way...
and there is so much that i have witnessed to help me be able to do that..
and believe or not you have witnessed the same thing...
let me call the roll...
nature…TALK..
sun, moon.......TALK..
TALK, PREACH......
so as we will see that Jesus was being questioned about His deity..was He really the messiah...
the people were looking for a messiah that would lead a revolt against the enemy of Rome...
but christ came to lead a revolt against the greatest of enemies…SIN..
so he is being questioned, and they were seeking proof of this...
so Jesus knew their customs and knew that a witness would be needed, so prove He was precisely who He claimed to be and the fact should have been known, He would call forth some witness to prove His claim..
let’s look at the text...

History...

As we look at this 5th chapter of John, we Jesus coming into Jerusalem where at the very beginning he heals a man by the pool of Bethesda.
a key note here that is was on a sabbath. when no work is supposed to be done..
so now they are looking to kill Jesus because he has healed on a sabbath, v16
i do not know about you but the God i serve doesn’t sleep or slumber, he has his angels watching over you all day and all night...
TALK, PREACH......
verses 17 thru 30 as Christ tells the people of how he equal to God, it enrages them even more...
people do not want to see God use you…we are not equal as christ was but HE can still use us and bless us...
it is now that Christ brings forth some witnesses on his behalf...
Witness regarding Jesus includes John the Baptist, the works of Jesus, God Himself, the Scriptures,
What Jesus is telling them then and telling us now is that My validation comes not from Myself. John the Baptist told you I am the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (see John 1:29). If that’s not good enough for you, look at the works I’m doing, the miracles happening. Yet even they aren’t the issue, for ultimately the validation for what I do comes from the Father Himself.”
we are going to look at His works then and now.
works that should have us being a witness of His works to a sin sick world...
helping someone truly believe and come to him...
Let’s go deeper into the text....

Points...

John 5:36 “But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.”
let’s summarize this text,
you don’t believe the one that was sent before to pave the way so what about the works that i have done that was given to me by the Father
these works bear witness of me and that the father has sent me...
how could you not believe John, TALK, PREACH.....
it was prophesied about John, Isaiah 40:3–4 “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert A highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough places smooth;”
you say you know the scriptures but do not believe John..

John the Baptist told you I am the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (see John 1:29)

Family some people just will not believe that you have changed...
that you are truly following Christ..
TALK, PREACH.....
but the people didn’t believe the witness of John but look what Jesus says, next...
John 5:36 “But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.”
If John is not good enough for you, look at the works I’m doing, the miracles happening
Jesus claimed another witness regarding His identity and deity — the very works that He did. This present controversy started with a remarkable healing of a man paralyzed for 38 years. This was one of many works that testified to the deity of Jesus.
The four Gospels record 37 miracles of Jesus, with Mark's Gospel recording the most.
TALK, PREACH......
The majority of the miraculous works of Jesus were simple acts of compassion and mercy, done for simple and needy people.
All of you in here today are some walking miracles.
You have witnessed His works personnaly…Go tell somebody..
TALK,PREACH......
Why does He do this miracles...
not only to prove you He is but to give God glory and truly prove that God sent Him...
John 5:36 “But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.”
What we would need to remember is that it all prophesied..
The Old Testament stated 47 prophesies about Christ. His birth, life, death, resurrection, and second coming..
The people knew the scripture and knew what to look for and expect but they did not believe...
Jesus was saying that the ultimately the validation for what I do comes from the Father Himself.”
Side note, once again the people was looking for the Messiah to get them away from the Romans however, Because Jesus’ miraculous works didn’t fit in with what they thought the Messiah would do, they didn’t receive this witness of Jesus’ works.
but Jesus knew what the Father wanted Him to do...
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Five: The Man Who Was Equal with God (John 5)

Jesus indicated that the Father gave Him a specific ministry to finish while He was here on earth. “I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do” (John 17:4). He was not only on a divine timetable, but He followed a divine agenda. He had specific works to accomplish in the Father’s will.

Conclusion...

Exalting Jesus in John Witness 2: The Works of Jesus (John 5:36)

If they don’t believe because of John’s witness, they should believe when they see Jesus’s works, which make his deity self-apparent.

Exalting Jesus in John Witness 2: The Works of Jesus (John 5:36)

The works of Jesus make it clear he’s divine. By themselves, his works should be enough to convince them of the deity of Jesus Christ.

The Jews knew the old testament scripture and they had Jesus walking and talking with them
but i hear what Jesus told thomas, over in John 20:29 “Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”” ..
we don’t have the physical Christ with us, but I see him in everything and everywhere..
i don’t know about you but i am a witness to His works..
the greatest of these works happened one Friday..
TALK, PREACH, CLOSE.....
When he changed me another work...
