As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.

Opening Prayer

How can a young person live a pure life? By obeying your word, Father. Teach us today, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways.

Passage

Today our passage is Romans 10:17: (ESV)

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Exhortation

Did you know that Jesus is powerful? He speaks and storms fall silent. He steps on the waves and the waters stiffen. He tells the deaf to hear and they listen. He tells the blind to look and their eyes are opened.

Did you know that Jesus is kind? He helps the sick, he feeds the hungry, he mends the broken, he heals the hurting, he gives hope to the hopeless.

Did you know that Jesus is King? He’s not a terrible tyrant, he’s not a dreadful dictator, he’s not an evil emperor. No. He’s the saving king of the whole world. He is the all-powerful kind King who has done wondrous works of healing and salvation.

And this powerful, kind King loves you beyond your wildest imagination. He made you. He knit you together in your mothers whom. He made you to be in his family, he loves you with the love of a perfect Father.

And what does this powerful, kind, saving King ask of us? He asks us to come to him by faith. Faith is essential - meaning it is absolutely necessary - to have a relationship with God. If you have a good understanding of it, then you can say that faith is all that he requires.

But how do you get faith? How does faith come to you? In our passage today, Paul says that faith comes by hearing. Hmm, maybe at first that seems odd, but once you think about it, it makes perfect sense. I have already told you that Jesus is powerful, that he is kind, and that he is the great saving King. You have heard that today. When these truths about Jesus are spoken, they are designed to build up the faith of the one who hears them. The more you hear about Jesus’ power and goodness, the more you know you can trust him. Jesus is a trustworthy King– the most trustworthy King, and therefore we should delight in obeying his royal decrees. This trusting and obeying is evidence of faith.

People need to hear about King Jesus, who he is, and what he’s done, so that they can begin to trust and obey him.

Call to Action: Let’s take a brief moment to consider who we might talk to about Jesus. Do you have a friend or family member that needs to hear the good news about Jesus’ powerful kindness and saving kingship?

Father thank you. Thank you that for thousands of years, your faithful people have passed on the good news of your faithful Son. Thank you for allowing us to hear this good news and respond with trusting obedience – with faith – to our good King. I pray that your Spirit would help us share the news of your Son with those around us. We ask this in the good name of King Jesus. Amen.
