What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? - Vincent Van Gogh
Can you imagine the things you would've missed had you not taken some risks? What if...You hadn’t given a friendship a shot, You hadn’t gotten married, You hadn’t tried to get that job, or You hadn’t worked hard for that promotion??? If you hadn’t taken advantage of that moment, your current reality may look completely different. Can you imagine your tomorrow's future if you allow your fear of failure to keep you from even attempting what’s before you?
1 Samuel 17:28–33 MEV
Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart. For you have come down that you might see the battle.” David said, “What have I done now? Was it not only a word?” And he turned from him toward another and spoke in the same way. And the people answered him again as at the first. When the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul and he sent for him. David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him. For you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.”
Your whole life, you will likely have people doubting you. David, the anointed king of Israel, was no different. You’ll notice they immediately began being critical of his current position. “Those FEW sheep” was a slam! Here’s what they didn’t know….
He had already killed a bear and a lion protecting those FEW sheep! Jesus said ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.’ So imagine this: even if it were a few things, do them with all your heart, and God will bless you.
1 Samuel 17:34–37 MEV
David said to Saul, “Your servant was a shepherd for my father’s flock, and the lion came and the bear, and took a lamb out of the flock. And I went out after him, and struck him, and delivered it out of his mouth. And when he arose against me, I took hold of his beard, struck him, and killed him. Your servant slew both the lion and the bear. And this uncircumcised Philistine will be as one of them, because he has reviled the armies of the living God.” David said, “The Lord who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
Even the King told David he couldn’t do it! Talk about damaging someone's confidence. Not David, not this time! David’s confidence was in God, who delivered those wild beasts into his hands! David was confident in God’s word and destined to be a king.
2 Samuel 23:20–23 MEV
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done great acts. He struck down two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went down and killed a lion in the middle of a pit on a snowy day. He struck down an Egyptian, an impressive man. Now the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, but Benaiah went down to him with a staff, seized the spear from the Egyptian, and killed him with his own spear. These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did and won for himself a name alongside the three. He was more honored than the thirty, but he did not attain to the three. So David set him over his bodyguard.
Everything that Benaiah and David had gone through and experienced was bringing them into God’s destiny for them. David was destined to be king of Israel, and Benaiah was the captain of David’s guard. What I’ve come to realize is that our adversities aren’t meant to destroy or stop us. In those moments, we often feel like giving up and that we are on the brink of something great! Imagine if David hadn’t fought the bear or lion. What if he hadn’t stepped onto the field against Goliath? What if Benaiah hadn’t followed that lion into the pit? They wouldn’t have realized the fullness of God’s destiny for themselves.
So what about you today? What obstacles are sitting in your way? Will you stand and fight or take the path of least resistance? It’s time to stand up and shut the mouth of your lion!!!
1 Peter 5:8–11 MEV
Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil walks around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him firmly in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. But after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
It’s time to seize your opportunities! God has called you to great things! Is there not a cause???
