Luke 2 4 verse 44

INTRO
recap-
Jesus has risen from the grave on the third day
mary and the other women find the tomb empty
Jesus appears in his ressurected body to 2 disciples on the road to emmaus
He then appears to the rest of the disciples
He has just eaten fish to prove He is not a spirit
and now Jesus starts to teach His disciples again
Luke 24:44–45 NKJV
Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
Jesus basically does a recap of His own
everything I taught you about
it was all pointing to this
st. augustine is one of the most important theologians who was ministering in the church around 400 years after Christs ressurection..
He made the point that the old testemant is christ concealed and the new testemant is Christ revealed
Jesus is explaining, the entire scripture is about Him coming into His creation,
dying for the sin of the world, being ressurected the 3rd day
and saving people from the judgment of their sin
case and point
serpent and the seed of eve
passover---
sacraficial system-
manna in the wilderness---
Noahs Ark --- flood is baptism of cleansing, only one door into the ark— Christ is the door
David is a type of Jesus --- kills giant goliath--- goliath is a picture of sin
prophets all preached repentance and faith--- they were all murdered
Christ comes preaching repentance and faith — He is killed
all the prophets prophesied of Jesus prior to His birth into the world
there are over 300 prophecies that He has fulfilled
and over 100 more that He will fulfill in His return..
go to our app to see a list of them.
While Jesus is teaching them it says
that He opened up their minds to understanding and comprehending the scripture
and that brings us to our first point

We need the spirit of God to give us revelation

Understanding the scripture is a spiritual thing
We need the spirit first to give us the desire to read our bible
and the desire to know God
then when we start searching the scripture we need the spirit of God to
illimunate the truth as we read..
story- I know when I was reading the bible for the first time
I didnt know half of what I was reading..
I needed time and the holy spirit needed to continue to teach me through the reading of the word and listening to sermons
John 14:26 NKJV
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Jesus promised the holy spirit would come
and teach his people all things concerning Him
Q. How many of you remember when you first got serious about your relationship with God?
you started reading your bible
and you would come accross things you didnt understand
or you would see people who seemed to be so wise in the bible
I remember asking a friend… How do you know so much about the word
He said you will too, Just keep reading and following God
It takes time..
continue in the word and seek after God
and He will continue to reveal the truth of who God is
Luke 24:46–48 NKJV
Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things.
Jesus continues to illuminate their minds by clear and powerful teaching
and He reminds the disciples
I was suppossed to suffer
and raise from the dead
the cross was my mission
because of the cross
forgivness of sin and reconciliation to God can be recieved
remember its a free gift that God gave us
anyone who goes to hell, they go because they choose to reject God
but what Jesus did was He lived a perfect life
and He offered up His sinless life to death on behalf of us
Romans 6:23 NKJV
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
is God Just?
The right punishment for sin is what? death
Our sin plunged us into spiritual death
and also is the cause of our physical death.
The just punishment for a life of sin is Hell.
that is a place of torment and seperation from God...
But in His love, He sent Jesus , His son
to die in your place.
to take pay the penalty for you
so that the just punishment would fall on His shoulders
and so that you would be forgiven,
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The offer of the gospel is the good news
believe in what Jesus did for you
turn you life away from sin and to Him
and you will be saved
this is the message that Jesus has commissioned His disciples to preach
bring this message to all of the nations

Tell people about Jesus

repentance and the remission of sins should be preached in His name
repentance means to turn the other way.. first in mind
remission- means to be reduced ---
turning away from your old life and sin to hrist and having His spirit change you through the gospel.
a sanctification process will happen through the remission of sins
you wont become sinless but the goal is to sin less
you will start to hate sin and love God
and your sin in the spiritual sense will be gone
not credited against you
meaning if you sin on Monday its forgiven on Monday
all by faith in Christ
just by believing Jesus
His spirit starts to work on you
This is the message we are to preach
to all the nations
q. Does anyone remember the promise God made abraham about the nations…
all of the famalies of the earth will be blessed through you..
fulfillment.
Matthew 28:19–20 NKJV
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
This was the commision for the disciples
but it carries on to you as a believer as well
Q. Who are you telling about Jesus
I want each of you to think…
who can I tell about Jesus
and invite them to church
The gospel is to be preached to all nations,
all people at your school, sports teams, communities.
the disciples were witnesses to Christ ressurection
and we are witnesses to what He has done in our lives
so lets preach Christ to the world..
in His name
we have authority to preachthe message
we have the power to preach it
and pray to Him and you will recieve the willingness
We need to start evangelising the youth in our community
and winning the lost to Jesus
Proverbs 11:30 NKJV
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.
let us turn to God by faith and pray for the lost in our community.
Luke 24:49–53 NKJV
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.
After Jesus gives the great commission
He tells them to stay in Jerusalem until the holy spirit is given to you..
we will see this take place in Acts during pentecoast
Jesus takes the disciples out to Bethany
He lifts His hands up and blesses them

Live in the blessing of God

the entire time Jesus was with the disciples He has blessed them
at this point Jesus had been in His ressurected body for 40 days
and before He ascends up into heaven He lifts His hands to blesses them once more
soon after He will bless them with the Holy spirit
and continue to bless His church through eternity..
Ephesians 1:3 NKJV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
God has blessed us with the gospel,
with spiritual life,
with eternal life,
with peace and purpouse...
let us continue to live out these spiritual blessings with thanksgiving
After Jesus ascends
the disciples lived out a wonderful christian response..
they worshiped in verse 52
they obeyed God and went back to Jerusalem
they Were happy in Him as they went with great Joy
and they publically followed Jesus and worshiped Him
Is this your response after finishing the Gospel of luke?
remember what God has done for you
Jesus was perfect for you in your place,
He is mostly concerned that you come to Him
and He will teach you by the spirit how to follow Him
Lets Pray
