Psalm 12
Psalm 12
Truth #1: The word of the Lord are pure.
Truth #2: Jesus is the godly one who is gone (vs 1) but later arises (vs 5).
Notes and observations:
This Psalm reminds me a lot about Elijah’s complaining about how “nobody is left” and he’s the only one.
The Lord will guard us forever (Matthew 28:19-20 where Jesus will be with us forever)
Psalm 14
Psalm 14
Truth #1: God is with the generation of the righteous.
Truth #2: Jesus is the salvation that “came out of Zion” and “the Lord who restores the fortunes of his people.”
Notes and observations:
Fools say there is no God - still true!
The Psalm parallels with Romans 1 and Paul alludes to it.
Psalm 15
Psalm 15
Truth #1: The one who wants to dwell in the presence of the Lord must be righteous.
Truth #2: Jesus is the fulfilment of this entire Psalm. He perfectly fits the person being described here as the only one who can ascend to God’s holy hill.
Notes and observations:
The idea of someone ascending to God’s holy hill is an OT theme. Adam and Eve were created on a mountain, or God’s holy hill. They were ultimately cast off, and humanity has been trying to return to that place.
Matthew draws attention to various mountains Jesus ascended, but his ascension into heaven was the ultimate fulfilment of humanity returning to the “holy hill of God”.
Through Jesus we are all made righteous and have the hope of also returning to the holy hill.
This week I read Conversation #3 from Brother Lawrence and recited the Apostle’s Creed.
