In September 15 Mexico is a big feast, is the Independence Day, that day, more than 30 years ago young engineer who had had been kidnaped 9 months before, experience for the first time the inner freedom, thought he was still abducted.
His name was Bosco Gutierrez he was, kidnaped by the communist guerrilla, they put in darkens, in a very narrow place without any contact with the exterior, he was unable to know if it was day of night, he got so depress and stop praying since that they of his suffering.
But on 15 of September the abductors, told him: today is the Mexican independence, today you can take and order whatever you want.
He was so disgusted that, as a way of revenge, he ordered a whiskey in a long glass and with a single ice. Like if he were in a luxury hotel.
"They brought me the whiskey just as I had ordered and I was there brushing the glass with my face, noticing the freshness of something new, which smelled good. I was going to taste it, of course."
But when he was smelling a strong inner thought come to him:
"Bosco, offer me the whiskey."
And there began an inner struggle:
"But, Lord, how can you ask me for this with everything that is happening to me?
Isn't it enough that they have me kidnapped and in these conditions?"
The voice continued: "What is happening to you does not depend on you, you have not chosen it. I want your sacrifice."
Then Bosco took the glass of whiskey and threw it into the toilet. "I flushed it down the toilet without giving it a sip."
He felt sleep and when he waked up, he was another man, he started to pray, the inner sacrifice give an new spiritual change, he develop a plan, ask a bible and accepted the will of God.
Lather he mange to scape, but in that moment of suffering he found again God, after offer a freely sacrifice.
The world cannot understand that, the disciples neither understood it, that is necessary the suffering in the life of Christ, then in all the Christian.
When we teach about that people got scary, no father that is no more…
they are baby Christian, because a babes and child did not know that in the world he will face the suffering.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps. 1 Peter 2.21
There are many sufferings that we did not choose, but we can offer, and more over offer daily small sacrifices, freely, it was part of the eight advices that Carlo Acuti, addressed to the children that was under Catechism.
It was one message of many apparitions of Mother Mary, Like in
- praying "with the heart" (especially the Rosary),
- frequent Eucharist,
- reading the Bible,
- frequent confession, at least monthly,
- fasting on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays.
"If you are in difficulty or in need, come to me. If you do not have the strength to fast on bread and water, you can give up other things. Rather than food, it would be good to give up television, because—after having watched television programs—you are distracted and unable to pray. You can also give up alcohol, cigarettes and other pleasures. You know for yourselves what you should do." Thus, the specificity of "bread and water" is mitigated.
