Back to the Basics
Acts 1:1–2 CSB
I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up, after he had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.
Luke 1:1–4 CSB
Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed them down to us. So it also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence, most honorable Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things about which you have been instructed.
Acts 1:1–2 CSB
I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up, after he had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.
“JESUS BEGAN” this is the start of the early church.
Who would like to be apart of a church the Jesus started?
This should be the starting point for all churches.
What did Jesus do and what did Jesus teach?
v.2 until taken up
After giving what? Instructions
Are you not excited to hear Jesus instructions for the Church?
Be on the watch for things we do and things we should be doing.
How was this instructions given? through the Holy Spirit. The same one we have living in us!
If it is good enough for Jesus it is good enough for you!
Acts 1:3 CSB
After he had suffered, he also presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
Presented himself ALIVE!!!!
“Convincing proofs” WHY?
40 days
Acts 1:4–5 CSB
While he was with them, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. “Which,” he said, “you have heard me speak about; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days.”
“wait for the Father’s promise”
Alright we are ready to go LORD now what? wait!
I hate waiting anyone else?
What promise?
few days not when you reached some spiritual high.
There are not two baptisms.
Acts 1:6–7 CSB
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.
Why not we really want to know?
When are you going to make things right?
I have found myself asking this very question.
“It is not for you to know”
Only by the Fathers authority.
Acts 1:8 CSB
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
What is the first symptom of this condition of the HOLY SPIRIT? (MY witnesses)
You will have the power you need don’t worry.
will be!!!
The 3 places had rejected Jesus
Acts 1:9–11 CSB
After he had said this, he was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen him going into heaven.”
They watch Him leave they need to see this.
He will be back and it will be like this.
What are you looking at it is time to get started.
What was the foundation of the early church?
Let this be our foundation!
