2 Corinthians 5:9–11 “So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body. Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.”
PRAY
Through our Ambassador University series, we have covered:
The call of an Ambassador for Christ
The voice of an Ambassador for Christ
The fear of man vs. the fear of the Lord
To wrap up this series tonight, the Lord wants to send you out with two things:
A RESPONSIBILITY + ACCOUNTABILITY
A KINGDOM RESPONSIBILITY IS A VISION IN AND OUT OF SEASON
2 Corinthians 5:9 “So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him.”
Paul stated their mission: to please the Lord
The mission wasn’t dictated by the environment, the social norms of the day, or whether you would receive approval or not. The mission was solely to please the Lord.
Paul wanted to the people of Corinth to recognize that whether they were with them or a part, this was their mission.
Paul understood the assignment. The assignment wasn’t to gain influence, popularity, or clout (because if it was, he wouldn’t have preached the messages he was preaching)
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.”
Though this verse was directed to Timothy as a pastor, this Word is also for you too.
Lets be real: its never a good time to walk out the responsibility of being a follower of Christ in dark places
Responsibilities are weights we have to carry (Ex. School and homework, activities, practices, etc.)
As a follower of Christ, you have a mandate over your life:
Matthew 28:18–20 “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””
Mark 16:17–18 “These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.””
Can we agree that our schools, homes, friend groups, sports team, and clubs have broken people in them?
People need HEALING (spiritually, physically, emotionally). They need to be set free of sin and bondage. They need the power of God to transform their lives and bring them closer to God. They need to be TAUGHT.
As the Pastor of Generations Youth, it is my responsibility to equip you with the Word, expose you to the power of God, and give you tools to send you out the door to make an impact. It is your responsibility to take the Word, His presence and power, and repeat the cycle. To multiply the Kingdom.
KINGDOM ACCOUNTABILITY MAKES KINGDOM RESPONSIBILITIES A REALITY
2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.”
It is not just non-believers that will stand before Christ. Christians will too.
Now before you freak out, it isn’t whether to decide whether you will go to hell or not. It is to decide if you followed the purposes God laid out in front of you.
You can get rewards in heaven based on how much of God’s purposes for your life you fulfilled on Earth. Everyones rewards will be different.
A practical way to help remind ourselves of the accountability to our responsibility to God is to bring others into our life journey’s to hold us accountable.
Having someone hold us accountable for our calling, purpose, or instruction from the Holy Spirit helps us maintain the responsibility God has given us.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”
If your friends are not sharpening you, they are making you dull
You have been made like a knife, to cut through the kingdom of darkness on this Earth
However, if you are dull, you are useless
How to know if you are dull?
You only live like a Christian during a service
Your boundaries against darkness give in when you are peer pressured
You complain or get annoyed at how dark your school is, but you refuse to do anything to change it
KINGDOM RESPONSIBILITIES HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BRING HEAVEN TO EARTH.
2 Corinthians 5:11 “Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.”
Counteracting the culture and the norms of today is strenuous work. It takes persistence, commitment, and Holy Spirit empowerment to fulfill the vision of heaven.
Did you know that God’s Will is for heaven to invade Earth?
Matthew 6:10 “May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”
Jesus taught us to pray this way. God Himself, when teaching us about the heart of prayer, desires for us to pull heaven down.
And what does Jesus say about when we pray His will?
John 15:16 “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”
We would never choose this responsibility to bear bright fruit in darkness. Until God made Himself known to us, we would’ve never looked His way on our own. Now we have that choice as we now have knowledge of what He has done for us.
His will for your life is for you to bear fruit that pleases and honors Him, but also brings healthy sustenance to a world that is hungry for something more than this world could possibly give them.
Think about it this way: The power of eating fruit regularly with your diet provides these things…
Gut health, promotes good bacteria (able to deal with bacteria easily that would try to harm)
Beats inflammation (inflammation happens when something has been injured or affected by an outside source)
Lowers cancer risks (combats the curse of sin + death)
Provides key nutrients and essential vitamins (provides exactly what you need when you need it)
Heart health (the heart in the Bible isn’t just something that beats that keeps you alive, but it encompasses your mind, will, and emotions. If your heart, your core, is healthy, everything else is)
Antioxidant (allows the blood to flow to every part it needs to)
What if the fruit God is calling you to bear is not just about you, but more about those around you?
God wants us to bear fruit and that does please Him and help us in our relationship with Him, but its more than that.
Our fruit, when picked from, can bring health to those around us. Thats how valuable us bearing fruit is.
Its not just about us living our quiet lives set aside for God. It is about producing bold fruit by our words, actions, and thoughts that begin to change those around us. (Mention John 10:10) Those around us experience the life giving power of Jesus in their spirits, minds, and bodies when we bear the fruit of the cross.
Matthew 5:13–16 ““You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
