Ice Breaker

"What is one fear or challenge you've faced that has taught you something important about yourself or your faith?"

Searching the Scripture

The Reality of Fear (The Spirit not Given by God)
Fear as a natural emotion: Fear is a common human experience but can paralyze us spiritually if left unchecked.
The fear addressed here: Paul writes to Timothy, who may have felt timidity in ministry. Fear of rejection, persecution, or inadequacy may have troubled him.
What this fear looks like: Doubt, hesitation, self-centeredness.
The Spirit of Power (The Spirit Given by God)
Power defined: This is spiritual strength given by God to face challenges and accomplish His purposes.
Power in Timothy’s context: Paul is reminding Timothy that the strength he needs to lead and minister does not come from his own abilities but from the Holy Spirit.
Biblical examples of power:
Peter after Pentecost (Acts 2).
Paul’s own perseverance in ministry (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
The Spirit of Love (The Character of the Spirit)
Love as motivation: Genuine love is the heart of ministry. Love for God and others overcomes self-centered fears.
God's love empowers us: Romans 5:5 – God's love is poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. It drives us to serve, even when it is hard.
The role of love in difficult circumstances: Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18).
The Spirit of a Sound Mind (The Discipline to Stay Grounded)
Sound mind means self-control: This is a disciplined mind, able to make wise decisions, focus, and keep faith in trying times.
Timothy’s need for stability: As a young leader facing opposition, Timothy needed this clarity and discipline.
Contrast with fear: Fear clouds judgment, but a sound mind gives balance, peace, and clear direction.
