It’s been a few weeks since I have been able to record a Kids Bible Minute and I am thankful now to be able to get back to doing so. I was sick, still have a cough, and then I was a great lectureship, the Mid-West Lectureship out of the 39th Street church of Christ in Independence, Missouri. That lectureship’s theme was “A Godly Home” and so I thought it would be good to consider today, the difference between “A Godly Home” and “A Modern Home.” For many years now the old 1997 Gatorade commercial song “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” has been the anthem of the feminist movement in an effort to eliminate the need for male’s in society. This has, unfortunately, seeped into the Lord’s church and it’s families. We need look no further than the amount of divorce that is with in the brotherhood even though Jesus declared in Matthew 19:4-6…
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
We have seen an uptick in sympathy for those in homosexual and other various sinful relationships and their “families” as those in the church become desensitized to them even though they are certainly sinful.
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
The reality is that most of the degradation to the home comes from a lack of leadership in the home by “dad.” It is the dad that is supposed to lead the home both in the physical and the spiritual realm, and yet many dads are simply too weak or too unfaithful to do their God given role.
We need strong spiritual men again in the home training their children through discipline and doctrine.
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
We need strong spiritual men again in the home training their wives to be great wives and mothers.
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
Men today are worried about being called “toxic” instead of by God being call a “worker of lawlessness” (Matthew 7:23).
If you have a good dad that “leads” his home as he should and a mom that submits to her husband as she should “learn from them,” “listen to their advice,” and raise your kids that way in the future. If you don’t have a dad or mom like this find a family that is as God would have it and learn from them so you do keep the cycle of chaos that this disruption in the family causes. BREAK THE CYCLE!!!
It all comes down to this, either we trust God and how he has established what is best for our family being our Creator or we trust human wisdom. As Joshua, in his 80’s stated in Joshua 25:15....
Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)
15 …choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
