Thesis: As we equip future leaders, it's essential to guide them in developing a leadership mindset, fostering ongoing spiritual growth, and continuously developing their skills.

The Mindset of a Leader

A Leader Understands the Importance of Servant Leadership

Philippians 2:5–7 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”

A Leader Understands Their Responsibility

Colossians 3:23–24 “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
How can we best communicate the principles of servant leadership to those we are equipping?
What are some other mindsets that a leader should adopt?

The Ongoing Spiritual Growth of a Leader

Devotion to God’s Word

Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Accountability Within a Healthy Community

Galatians 6:1–2 “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
What are some practical tips you could share with someone who is struggling to be faithful in their Bible reading?
What does it look like to live out Galatians 6:1-2 in practice?

Useful Skills for a Leader

Effective Communication

Ephesians 4:15 “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—”

An Empathetic Ear

James 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;”

Conflict Resolution

Matthew 18:15–17 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.”
What other useful leadership skills can you think of?
What are some effective ways to acquire new skills?
Conclusion: Future leaders become effective when they are equipped with the right mindset, are prepared to grow spiritually, and have the guidance and resources they need to develop their skills.
