Praying for humility and wisdom

A high and humble calling

1 Peter 5:1–4 ESV
1 So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

A solemn responsibility

Acts 20:28 ESV
28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

A dependent ministry

James 1:5 ESV
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Praying for one another

1 Timothy 4:16 ESV
16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Galatians 6:9 ESV
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Praying through this Sunday’s sermon text

John 10:10 ESV
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Praying for our sheep

Ezekiel 34:1–4 ESV
1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? 3 You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. 4 The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them.
We are to sacrifice of ourselves for our sheep.
We are to prioritize the needs of our sheep above our own.
We are to care for our sheep.
We are to protect our sheep.
In addition to our shepherd list, let’s be sure to pray for
Our deacons (Uly Bell, Bob Finley, Lance Sunday, Matt Grim, John Beaulieu)
Our staff (Chris, Jesse, Bob)

Praying we continue to pursue our purpose

To exalt the triune God
To edify the saints
To evangelize the world
