It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood
A beautiful day for a neighbor
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
It's a neighborly day in this beautywood
A neighborly day for a beauty
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you
So, let's make the most of this beautiful day
Since we're together, we might as well say
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please, won't you please?
Please, won't you be my neighbor?
You know what a Good Samaritan is. Right? (preach)
Explain the background.
Bring up to the question.
1. A good Neighbor isn’t Self-righteous
1. A good Neighbor isn’t Self-righteous
What shall I do to inherit eternal life? First mistake. The idea that this man who is supposed to be an expert in the word didn’t understand how inheritance worked. (teach on inheritance). The bottom line is this man thought that there was a way that he could prove to Jesus, to God, that he could do something to earn eternal life.
Justify himself- He also wanted to show Jesus up and justify himself.
Hypocritical- Priest leader, Levite religious leader. Both of these point the finger at the lawyer.
It is expected that the priest should know better and do better. But...
It is expected that the Levite should know better and do better. But...
2. A good Neighbor is Christlike
2. A good Neighbor is Christlike
Compassionate- Jesus now brings in person to the story who culturally doesn’t belong. He is not the ideal hero of any Jewish story.
Sacrificial- its not a sacrifice if it doesn’t cost. Its not a sacrifice if it isn't risk. He treats the wounds, picks up the man, puts him on his own animal (so now hes walking) takes him to the inn, gives the keeper a days worth of pay to cover any cost. (Preach)
I was thinking about who could fall under such categories. Who was like a good neighbor?
Joseph took care of his brothers and neighbors…Like a good neighbor
Moses came to the rescue of his fellow Hebrew…he was like a good neighbor
Aaron and Hur came to rescue of Moses and held up his arms…Like a good neighbor
Rahab…Like a good neighbor
David…Like a good neighbor
David Mephibosheth…Like a good neighbor
Elijah and the widows son...
James and John
Ananias took in Paul
Tabitha who hosted the disciples
Harriet Tubman…Underground railroad
Martin King
But…I got one just as good if not better than all these neighbors…his name Jake…Jake from state farm.
