The future is…

How would you finish the statement/sentence?

We want certainty and security.

Nothing wrong with this and I believe it is one of the primary needs we have as humans. This is why the future can be so scary and we want to look backwards, for the past we already know.
Jeremiah 6:16 NIV
This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
This is not a call to not change and go backwards necessarily but a call to repentance.

Israel had a false security in the temple.

Verse 4 makes this point clear as they would repeat a mantra “The temple of God, the temple of God, the temple of God.”

The temple=God’s presence.

Verse 3 could be translated “I will live with you in this place”

God’s presence is a gift of grace.

The nation and probably us need to remember this.
We do not deserve the presence of God in our life.

Worship matters.

Coming to worship and how we worship matters.

The way we live matters.

We cannot just worship properly and then live however we want and think God’s blessings will reside on us. This is not work salvation but if our faith is never seen in action and the way we live then we do not have faith.

Jesus is our true security.

He will never let us down.
Hebrews 13:5 NIV
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Let Jesus have the final say!

This is our call and the call of the Gospel.
