Church what an exciting Sunday it is
As I was reading through this to prepare I read it and thought how perfect a passage of scripture for Maranatha
Especially knowing we are having a commissioning service next week
As we read through this passage this morning you will see how God had planned and ordained this morning to be just before we do our commissioning service
If last week was the message of salvation and the guarantee that salvation brings to a lost nation, world, a lost people and even a lost friend or family member
2 things from last week we need to highlight before we get into this mornings passage
1st Thing
Romans 10:1 NASB95
1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.
Paul was so concerned with his families, friends, and even strangers eternal security that he was willing to do something
Church Paul was so concerned about their eternal salvation that he was praying for them
Last week we challenged you to be pray for 30 days for at least 1 lost person you know
The asked are you so concerned with their eternal security that you are willing to do something
Church that something starts with prayer
You will find that things start with Pray and if we are not willing to pray for them they we for sure won’t be willing to go and talk with them
Church we must be praying for the lost people we know by name
Then also last week Paul share the Gospel Message
Romans 10:9–11 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
This is how you begin a personal relationship with Jesus
To confess with your mouth is to repent to turn from the other junk in your life and confess Jesus as Lord
As the only God in your life
To believe that God raised Him from the dead is to believe that Jesus is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do
To have faith that Jesus is Lord who you just confessed as Lord
That is the Good News that Jesus saves to a lost world to a lost friend or family member that you are praying for for 30 days
The Good news to a lost city, lost state, lost nation and the world is that Whoever calls on the name of Jesus will be saved
Paul shares that
And that brings us to this morning
Romans 10:14–15 NASB95
14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”
Remember Paul asks the question he already knows the answer to so you he give the correct information
How can people call on the name of Jesus
How can they believe
Church people need to hear the truth
Which is why church it is vital you attend a church that reads from and teachers directly from the Word of God itself
But how in the world will people know to call on the name of Jesus if they haven’t been told they need of savior
That is a question Paul is asking the Jewish believers in Rome and I believe that is what He is asking Maranatha
The answer to that church is to plant churches
How in the world will people in Holton now to call on the name of Jesus to be saved
How will they know they need a savior if no one will tell them
To think that other people will do it doesn’t work anymore
This is why churches plant churches
Because they are concerned with the growth of the kingdom rather than the growth of an individual church
Paul continues with the questions how will the preach the good news unless they are sent
We are doing just that
We as Maranatha have skin in the game at Holton
We are invested in that community now
And so church we take from our own people and we under the direction from God send them to where He wants them
We are taking Matt & Kayla, Ed & Crystal, Matt & Janara and their families from our church family and church ministry
Under the direction of God and sending them to Holton
Where God wants them
Church it takes a special person to plant a church
Paul is highlighting the importance of those willing to take the Gospel to others
Wether it is across the globe like the Jones’s
Wether it is across the county, or to a neighboring town, or dare I say it church to your co worker in the same office
Or your neighbor across the street or your family member
How beautiful are the feet of those willing to go and share the Gospel message
Paul gives them some hard truth to hear
Romans 10:16–17 NASB95
16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Paul reminds those who share the Gospel will not always result in salvation
Just because you share the Gospel message does not mean people come to salvation
And that is hard to hear sometimes
As people who are concerned about the eternal salvation of others sometimes we forget it is not on us if they choose to receive or reject Christ
We are to be obedient to our job of sharing the Gospel of sharing the Good News Of praying for the lost people for opportunity to share the Gospel
And once we share it it is between them and God at that point
Simply hearing the word does not produce faith in Christ
Christ produces faith but you need to hear the Word to come to know Christ
A good and honest reminder that now everyone we share the Gospel with will come to know Christ
But that we are continue to faithful and obediently share the Gospel Message
Romans 10:18 NASB95
18 But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.”
Gods word does not fall on deaf ears
Gods word when spoken goes out
Church there is power in the Word of God
Something Paul said at the very beginning of his letter to the Jewish Believers in Rome
Romans 1:16 NASB95
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
To understand and to know that there is power in God
In AWANA TNT we are going through the 10 commandments
Last week we understand that the name of God is power
That at the name of Jesus every knee will bow one day
That is some awesome and mighty power!
Hebrews 4:12 NASB95
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Their is power in the Word of God
So when we go out sharing the Gospel that is why we don’t have you memorize a script but we have you memorize scripture
Because there is no power in a script but Church there is power in the Scripture the Word of God
So when you go out understand the power is in the Word of God and it goes out and through the Holy Spirit it does the work of Salvation
Paul ends this part of the letter with some hard words to hear
Romans 10:19–21 NASB95
19 But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, By a nation without understanding will I anger you.” 20 And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who did not seek Me, I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.” 21 But as for Israel He says, “All the day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”
Of course Israel knew about a personal relationship with God is the only way to salvation
But they did not obey
Paul reminds them of Moses word that a nation without understand
A nation who did not receive the Law will anger the nation of Israel because they will receive righteousness not because they followed the law but because they had faith
They had faith church because someone was more concerned with their eternal salvation and did something about it
That someone prayed for them and then when the opportunity came up didn’t share a scripture they had memorized in evangelism class but they shared scripture and their own personal testimony
It wasn’t the person who shared that saved them it was the God of the universe because they repented of their sin and trust in Jesus even though they did not receive the law
Paul will share with them the gentiles found Jesus even though they weren’t looking
Paul is saying all this to remind them that is all about faith in Christ
A relationship with Jesus is not based on a list of rules you must follow or a culb you belong to and pay dues to and show up once a week
But a relationship with Jesus is based on faith in who He says He is
Jesus has said that He is the Savior and the I AM
To believe that and be obedient to what He has said
Paul is saying that to the Jewish to remind them and show them it is no longer about the law they are to follow
He ends chapter 10 with a reminder
Jesus is not the one that moved
They have travel and walked away from God
They have used the law and jewish way of life to walk away from God Himself
God is still standing there and willing to welcome anyone as an adopted child who will repent and believe
That was to them when Paul wrote and the beautiful thing is it still stands true this morning
CLOSING
As Emma comes up to play our invitation
That invitation still stands
God is ready and willing to welcome anyone and everyone who will come and repent and believe this morning
You can become an adopted Child of God this morning
Would you come
Or maybe you already have a personal relationship with Jesus
And maybe there is another decision to make this morning of church membership or maybe a call to the ministry
Or maybe it is you need to just spend sometime at the alter in prayer
The alter is open
