DECLARATION:
Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Our church family is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, and we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit.
We are reaching out to our family, friends, and neighbors as the body of Christ.

INTRODUCTION:
Review: Last Week: Bible is God Breathed (Authored by God-Holy Spirit); The canon of Scripture (The Bible) is closed; We must be Guided by The Word & The Spirit!
Biblical Interpretation tells us the Bible will never mean what it never meant (i.e. Christian History is important)
WHY?…
TODAY:

The Holy Spirit Illuminates The Word

Def. “to cast light upon something”
Opening Scripture:
Psalm 119:105 ESV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

How is the the Word a lamp and a light?

Illumination
Illumination is God’s lighting an area for us to learn and ultimately apply to our lives so that we may be transformed into the likeness of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is the one who guides us into the truth…John 14:26 “26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
“teach” is not simply knowledge but skills (TDNT)
Deuteronomy 31:19 “19 “Now therefore write this song and teach it to the people of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the people of Israel.”
Background: Moses about to die, commissions Joshua, God says people will break covenant and whore so this song (Dt. 32) will be a witness against them saying God is not among them.
TRANSITION:

The Author of The Bible Illuminates it for us in 4 ways:

1. The Holy Spirit is with us through the reading and declaring of the Word

1 Thessalonians 1:5 “5 because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.”
Background: Paul acknowledges that his ministry success is not based on human effort or strategies, but on the transformative power of the Holy Spirit working through him and the proclamation of the gospel.
The Author is always present when we read and declare his Word and thus it is powerful enough to be a light

2. The Holy Spirit helps us remember what God has said

Luke 22:61 “61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.””
Background: Peter denies that he knew Jesus
The Author is always the best interpreter.

3. The Holy Spirit helps us apply what God has said

Joshua 1:8 “8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Matthew 7:24 “24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
The Author also is the one who makes us a new creation so that we can do what God has said.

4. The Holy Spirit emboldens us to do what God has said

1 Corinthians 2:4 “4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,”
The Author is also the one who empowers us to be witnesses to a world who says God is not among us.
Conclusion/Reflection:
During World War II, Allied forces relied on radar technology to navigate at night, which was essential for avoiding enemy fire and reaching their targets.
In the same way, The Holy Spirit serves as our spiritual radar, guiding us through God’s Word as challenges and obstacles threaten our peace and purpose. Just as soldiers trusted their equipment, we can trust the Holy Spirit to lead us to safe ground in our lives.
(The ways/sayings of Jesus - Matthew 7:24“24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”)
Through illumination, God's Word serves as a guiding light in our lives, leading us to walk in the ways of Christ and shine His light to the world.
