I’m sticking with God Psalms 31:5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

To begin with brothers and sisters Christian Friends, Well Wishers and Saints of God As we glint, gleam, and gaze at this glorious text I found something that was new to me.

What is Rev? It’s not a new statement but it’s a newer and deeper biblical concept to me. The emphasis in the Psalms 31 text is Trusting God no matter how difficult the circumstances are or how difficult the situations are or how difficult the conditions may be.

Because there is always one constant thing “God is faithful!” David our main character today wants to take refuge from his enemies. And in verse 5 he utters these words “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth”.

These particular words are famous in the bible. Because Jesus’ last words on the cross was “Father Into thine hands I commit my Spirit! And these are some profound, prolific, and prophetic words. And this is a prime example that “Everything Jesus said in the New Testament can be found in the Old Testament”. Because The Old Testament conceals but the New Testament Reveals. 2x

And the thing that’s revealed in this super power packed text is that No Matter what! “I’m Sticking with God”. Clear cut across the board. I’m Sticking with The Lord. And so There are things that I want to lift from this text. You got a minute?

1. When Others Do Evil, Trust God for His Strength.

2. When Others Cause you Pain, Ask God for His Mercy. and then finally

3. When Others See your Victory, Give God the Glory.

And so as we look at this text in verse 1 right out the gate the word says “In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

David is saying LORD, I trust in you no matter what, LORD don’t let me ever be disgraced by folk who can’t stand my guts. And David had enemies who couldn’t stand his guts. David says LORD Save me because you do what is right.

King David is saying in essence “No Matter what comes hell or high water I’m Sticking with The Lord”. Jesus said the same thing… Jesus said in essence I know the awful tragedy that’s coming, So Father Into thine Hands I commit my Spirit. And so spiritually speaking metaphorically speaking, and even tangibly speaking we all have a cross to bear. No cross no crown.

And don’t get it twisted, I know that there is a world of difference between Jesus in the NT and King David of the OT . Because Jesus lived during the Roman domination of Israel but David lived nearly a thousand years before and David was the King of Israel. So I’m not confusing timelines but I am integrating the Spiritual concept of Trusting God of Committing to God and of Dedicating ones self to the service of God.

David said in the NLT Version in verses 2-8 the following words 2. Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. 3 You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. 4 Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone. 5 I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.

Now verse 5 From the KJV verse 5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. 6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; 8 And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

Alright there are some powerful truths in verses 1-8 .

Point 1. When Others Do Evil, Trust God For His Strength. David was in a serious situation. And the key words to remember is in verse 5 is I commit my spirit. The word Commit in the Hebrew vernacular is the word Paqad Which means a state of personal dedication of something or someone, which results in actively promoting and working for their good and well being. And in this case Commit was served up to emphasize somebody is visiting oo oo ooo to punish.

And it’s true in this text that David had enemies on his trial. And what’s worst is the enemies were in his own home. Let’s read the text again and then you think about it. Think about the fact that if “that was your child or your close kin folk or your relative doing that was behind you to do you dirty.

From the NLT 1 O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. 2 Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. 6 I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul . 8 You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.

David is feeling un safe in my own home in his own land in and his own kingdom. David is saying I got to cry out to God for protection and rescue and redemption because my own kin folk are setting traps for me. I’ve got to ask God for protection from my baby boy that I’ve changed his diapers? Whattttt. You are kidding me right? The Lord has got to rescue me from you and I’ve got to say Lord I entrust my spirit man into thy Holy hands because you’re faithful.... I’ve got to say Father into thine hnads I commit my spirit!!!

The text upset me when I knew the context. In the context of the story is that David is talking about his own son Absalom. Absalom did evil towards his own daddy and 2 Samuel 15-18 David’s son Absalom is relentlessly trying to kill him. And David is saying here “when others do evil, David said Trust God for his strength.” I don’t care what demon from hell comes against you God is stronger than them all! And the church said Amen.

David had enemies in his own home, but,,,, there were others involved as well. And so Point 2. When Others cause Pain, Ask God for His Mercy. If it were ever three words that I’ve learn to live by it’s these three words. “Lord Have Mercy.”

Look at the text from the KJV in verse 9&10 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. 10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

In Verse 9 David says Have Mercy upon me. Church listen to me I’ve never hear anybody say “Lord have Grace upon me”. But I have heard Lord Have Mercy Upon Me. Well what’s the difference between Grace and Mercy. Grace is me getting stuff that I really don’t deserve…2x.. But Mercy is me not getting the punishment that I truly deserve to get!!! Have you ever been honest and said “Lord I messed up, I know I messed up but please Lord look beyond my faults and see about my needs.”

David knew that he messed up because verse 10 says my strength fails because of my iniquity. David said Lord I know I messed up but don’t let em get me. Don’t let these folk that cause me pain triumph over me. David’s son Absalom is causing him pain and he had help to get after David. And sometimes it’s the people right close to you. Church some times people smile right in my face and then stab you in your back.

Tell your neighbor: That Ain’t Right

David’s trusted advisor Ahithophel is siding with his son Absalom..People who you never thought would turn you, Turn on You! Some times it’s people pretending to be close to you that try to rip you apart. Say it ain’t so Rev

But then the text teach talks and tells another important set of facts

Look at verses 11, 12,& 13 Because of all my troubles, my enemies hate me, and even my neighbors look down on me. When my friends see me, they are afraid and run. 12. I am like a piece of a broken pot. I am forgotten as if I were dead.

13. I have heard many insults. Terror is all around me. They make plans against me, and want to kill me.

I see several things here

1. In verse 11 Folk don’t even want to be around David because they see how much trouble he’s in. ( Been there and done that too)

2. In verse 12 Folk see that David has a broken spirit. You’ve seen some folk say that they’re doing fine but their countenance is sad, sorrowful and depressed.

3. In the b clause in verse 12 David said some Folk act like I don’t exist as if I died or something, and they don’t act like they want to some see anymore.

4. In verse 13 David said Folk talk about me like a dog and they’re making plans on how to bring me down. In fact the bible says that they wanted to KILL David.

Watch this 2x David said in verses 14-18 “But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. 15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. 16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake. 17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.”

The good Lord made me visit this text again I trusted God then, and I trust God now.

David said in verse 15 that my times are in your hand Lord. And that means that God wants us totally depended upon Him. David said I don’t want to be put to shame because of my enemies and Lord they tell such vicious lies. Lies that are very harmful so much so until people are scared to death in Springfield.

There will be a change, a change is coming. Trouble can’t last always because the bible says in verse 19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! 20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

God is faithful And verses 19 -22 is saying that when Absalom invaded the city to try to go in an kill his father David. The Lord made a way of escape and Absalom and his followers couldn’t destroy David and his family. And just like that God can save us from our enemies.

Just before I close here David said in verse 22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. And that means that just when you think that God is not answering prayers, He shows us that he’s still in the prayer answering business He’s still upon his throne. Please sit to have mercy Oh Lord.

Then the last thing David says is 23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. 24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Well I’ve held y’all long enough why ah I love the Lord um um um because he heard my cry and pitied my every groan, Please sir to have mercy Oh Lord um um um Oh Lordy yes.

Is there anybody here that Love my the Lord because the bible says He preserves the faithful, and The Lord rewards me plentifully because I proudly do the Will of God oh Lord. Yes and as I leave you here today I want to world to know that “ I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it it the power of God unto Salvation
