Context:

Shepard lead sheep through rough conditions
Extreme leadership to keep them alive

1-2

We can be shepherds and/or sheep

A shepherd without a boss does not know what to do
Leadership by example v. 2

Climb in by some other way

Some leaders will get to positions of power by manipulating and cheating, but they can only steal kill and destroy because they are not shepherds.
Not all people who call themselves Christians are following Christ they are also thieves and robbers, because they have not come to the body of Christ through a relationship.

3-6

Called by name

Literal examples of Jesus calling his sheep by name
Matthew 9:9 “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.”
Matthew 4:18-20 “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.”
But it can also be by a shepherd or leader

Grow your relationship to recognize God’s voice

It is important to recognize Gods voice so that we are not lead astray.
If you’ve never read the Bible, you wouldn’t recognize false teachings
We need to know who God is and we can do that by being in the scriptures

7-9

Jesus is the gate

John 14:6 No one comes to the father except through me

Come in and go out and find pasture

If we enter through the gate we will have a settled and satisfied life
This does not mean life will not be hard, but we will be anchored

10

The thief

Satan cannot and will not bring anything good into your life
The only thing that will bring good into your life is following Christ
Happiness can steal your joy

Misconception about laws

People think rules take away from life
God did not make rules for fun
Rules are guidelines for how we should live
God wants us to have a good life and the rules are there to help us

11-13

The good shepherd

Jesus will only lead us to good things even in hard times
We can trust Him because he cares for us

The hired hand

Someone who only seeks material gain
Does not have your best interest in mind

14-16

empathetic relationship

Pick up your cross
Lay down your life

Know the shepherd

If you do not know Jesus you are not His sheep
We can know Him by reading and praying

Gentiles

Other sheep are gentiles

17-21

Lay down his life

Jesus had a singular purpose and he fulfilled it
This was the plan from the beginning

Authority

Jesus has all authority in Heaven and Earth
The deed to Earth is in Heaven
Jesus allows the evil that we see on Earth now for a temporary time, but it will come to pass
