Luke 22:1–20 NKJV
1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover. 2 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. 4 So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude. 7 Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed. 8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.” 9 So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?” 10 And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.” 13 So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover. 14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
Elab on how often churches do the Lords supper. If have to make sure it doesn’t become routine.
Closed Communion: This is when the church only those members in good standing to participate. The Lords supper
Open Communion: Everyone that is present is encouraged to participate.
Close Communion: Everyone present is invited to participate, but only after they have been warned of the consequences of partaking in the Lords supper in an unworthy manner. Everyone present is urged to practice self-examination and then if they can participate if they wish.
I. The Lords supper is a symbolic service.
II. The Lords Supper is to remember what Jesus did for us
III. The Lords supper is to be taken seriously.
Luke 22:19 “And He took the bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave to them saying, this is my body which is given unto you: this do in remembrance of me.”
A. There are four basic views of what the Lords supper represents.
1. Transubstantiation: The bread and the wine literally change into the body and blood of the lord Jesus. So those who take of it actually eat and drink the Lords body and blood.
2. Consubstantiation: The bread and wine actually contain the blood and blood of Jesus, but do not literally change. Christ is actually present “with, in and under” the elements. According to this view, the recipient receives the forgiveness of sins and the confirmation of their faith through the elements.
3. Reformed: Christ is not literally present in the elements, but there is a spiritual presence of Christ. The recipient receives grace though partaking of the element.
4. Memorial: This view teaches that Jesus is present neither physically or spiritually in the elements, but that the Lords supper stands as a symbolic reminder of what Jesus did for man of the cross as he suffered and died and rose from the died. Do this in remembrance of me.
VI. The Lords Supper is a time of Worship.

Luke 22:1 NKJV
1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.

a. They could not kill His life because he would be his life. Elab
VS2b
Luke 22:2 (NKJV)
2 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people.
1. Why did the powerful men fear the people?
John 12:11–13 NKJV
11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus. 12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”
1. In Matt. Term “multitude” Throng.
a. Mark 5:31
Mark 5:31 NKJV
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
c. There were a lot of people praising Jesus. This is why their feared them. But over the next week they would turn the people against Jesus.
d. Today in times of trouble our country will pray. But then they will pass laws that go directly what God’s word says.
VS 3-13
Luke 22:3–20 (NKJV)
3 Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve.
4 So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them.
5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.
6 So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.
7 Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.
8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”
9 So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”
10 And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters.
11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’
12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”
13 So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

1. It was his heart’s desire to spend his last night before the cross with the 12.
a. Even the one that would betray him, the one that would deny him, all of them would flee.
b. Elab our focus or desire should be to spend to with Jesus. Our focus our desire should be to worship him.
c. Because of who he is, and what he had done for us.
Before I Suffer: Elab on his suffering, not just the physical suffering, but the emotional suffering.
1. He would not only suffer the physical pain. He would suffer the pain of our sin, he would suffer the pain of the father forsaken him. Matt 27:46 Mark 15:34
a. The word suffer means: To desert, to leave helpless, to abandoned.
VS 16

VS 17

And he took the cup, and gave thanks: The word thanks, is to be grateful. He just spoke of suffering, now he gives thanks.
1. Divide it among yourselves. It is like Jesus was giving a part of himself to each of them.

This is my body which is given for you: Given means “I offer”
a. It is broken like the body of Jesus that was beaten.
b. On that night He would break the bread and offer it to them, but it was up to them to take. Judas took it, but he took with the wrong heart. There was no worship in him.
c. The offers everyone to take part in the worship of him.

2. We can remember what Jesus did for us, we can honor what Jesus did for us, when we take of the Lords supper. H can truly worship Him.
a. But we have to have the right heart of worship.
I Corn 11: 26-30
1 Corinthians 11:26–30 NKJV
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

VS 28
1 Corinthians 11:28 NKJV

VS 29- 30
