Why I am a member of the Church of Christ

1. God loves us so much He sent His son to die for us.

John 3:16 NKJV

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

2. Jesus died to purchase His people.

Acts 20:28 NKJV

28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

A. God provided a path for me to be reconciled to Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17–21 NKJV

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

1. Jesus made me the righteousness of God Hidden in Himself.

Colossians 3:3 NKJV

3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

A. All spiritual blessing are in Christ including salvation.

Ephesians 1:3 NKJV

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

A. Because It is only in Him that we become the righteousness of God.

Galatians 3:27 NKJV

27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

3. Jesus built His Church.

Matthew 16:18 NKJV

18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

A. Jesus built a singular church “My church.”

B. The Church Jesus built is the only church the gate of Hades shall not prevail against.

1. The church Jesus built is the only safe haven on this earth from satan.

2. It is a place where one is to be built up and encouraged or stirred up to love and good works.

Hebrews 10:24 NKJV

24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

4. The Church of Christ is the only Church that God adds to.

1 Corinthians 3:5–9 NKJV

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.

A. Therefore, the reason I am a member of the Church of Christ is that Christ added me to His Church.

Acts 2:47 NKJV

47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

1. What we need to remember is that there is no other church that is pleasing to God than the Church Jesus adds too.

A. Because the Church of Christ is the church that Jesus is head of.

Colossians 1:16–18 NKJV

16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

1. I am a member of the Church of Christ to give honor and glory to Christ so that he may have the preeminence.
