Read Romans 2:1-11
1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 He will render to each one according to his works: 7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; 8 but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. 9 There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, 10 but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. 11 For God shows no partiality.
Paul continues to lay out his case for salvation
Last week we saw how he railed against the human condition
The darkest desires of the heart when not rooted out by the Holy Spirit will consume us
They will lead to our death
and whats worse is when we give approval to these things
We should Judge Rightly
We should Judge Rightly
This is classic for the church we look at the whole list of sins and think man we are ok because we dont do those things
Really???? this is Pauls next indictment
To those who think of themselves as pure
As righteous but cover up those very same sins
Or worse yet accuse and judge others for doing the same thing they do
So again be careful with your heart
Not just what its desires are but also what its trying to cover up
When you look at someone else and think man I’m glad I dont sin like the do
Be careful
Is that really true
Thats what paul is saying here
1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges.
Be careful how and who and why you are judging someone
Are you judging them or calling them out because it makes you feel better?
Because you direct the attention from you
This is such a profound diagnosis of the human condition
We so quickly compare ourselves
We look to break others down so that we can feel better
A Paul is asking you to reflect on that truth
Do you who know God
This is all of you
You have all heard the truth of God
You know what his righteous decree is
You know the character of God
You know that he is omniscent
Yet you think if you say look over there that he will somehow miss the sin your life
Dont do that
There is no escape from the judgement of God
We know this and so soemtimes we rely on the forgiveness of God
My friend in High school cant you just sin and God will forgive you
This is not how God works
Remeber last week given enough time God will give you…
Dont mistake his grace or forberance for approval
HOw many times does that happen
we get away with something so we think we will always
Thats not the truth about God
Because he doesnt kill you at first sin
it doesnt mean that sin will not lead to your death
Gods forbearence with us is meant to lead us to repentance
We look at a perfect holy God who doesnt end us at first sin
In fact he will give us time and time again to repent
Look at the story of cain and able
God will give cain so many chances to confess and repent
HE wont do it
So he will be punished
But God is patient so that we see his love for us
His care for
He wants us to come to him
So he loves he forgives he is kind with us
so that we would repent
I am disappointed in you
Not yelling
Because God will Judge Rightly
Because God will Judge Rightly
God will give us what we earn
he is impartial
