What is a man?

A man is a biological male created in God’s image to display God’s glory to all creation.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

Every male is man, but not all men know who they are. So we look to Scripture to find this our, because it is in Scripture that we know the one who made us.

v28. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

What do you see in this that speaks to the identity of a man?

A man is a multiplier.

A man is to be fruitful

Man and woman, together, are to have dominion over all creation. This does not mean that we are the boss of everything and that all creatures will obey us, but that humans are the image bearers of God, and no other created thing is. Therefore, we are to subdue and rule, and in our subduing and ruling we are making God known.
