4. I want to read something to you called “The Art of Marriage” by Wilfred A Peterson:

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.

A good marriage must be created. In the art of marriage the little things are big things.It is never being too old to hold hands.

It is at no time taking the other for granted; The courtship shouldn’t end with the honeymoon. It should continue through all the years.

It is a mutual sense of values and common objectives; It is standing together facing the world.

It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.

It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy and giving.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel.

It is not looking for perfection in each other. It cultivates flexibility, patience, understanding, and a sense of humor.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It gives each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is making room for things of the Spirit. It is common sense for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which independence is equal, the dependence is mutual, and the obligation is reciprocal. It is not only marrying the partner, it is being the right partner.

5. RELATIONSHIPS MATTER

-Anything God does of significance, is through relationships.

-3 types of relationships that all of us should have:

1. Looking up to God or mentors

2. People that you grow together in life with

3. People that we are helping

-The marriage is the closest relationship we can have on earth. The marriage union is the closest relationship that can exist between two human beings. When a man and a woman decide to join together in marriage they should do so with full realization of their responsibilities.

-When two people come together and know its God’s will for them to marry, they come together before God, before a minister and before witnesses to join their hearts and lives for eternity. They make a public profession of their mutual love and devotion, pronouncing vows and pledging their lives to each other.

-Today, the both of you will be pronouncing your marriage vows in faith, the power of God will go into operation and a miracle will take place. You will united by God and become one in His sight. A husband and wife are joined together as Jesus is joined to the church.

6. As I read from the 5th Chapter of the book of Ephesians, pay very close attention to the words spoken here. These words are God’s words, and the Holy Spirit will honor them as we stand on them by faith.

-Eph 5:21, Submitting yourselves one to the other in the fear of God, Wives, submit yourself unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

8. Today _Ben__ and Marselha_ You will not be entering into a contract, but you’ll be entering into a covenantrelationship, by these two symbols:

1) Vows-Speaking God’s word

2) Rings-Sign

9. Let me speak some scripture from God’s Word today:

-1 Cor. 13:4-8, Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

-Phil 2:2-4, Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

11. The Rings- A ring is a very precious thing, a token of your faith and your love. Most importantly a sign of the covenant you are entering into. I want you to wear these rings as a continual reminder of your faith and a continual reminder of your covenant to each other and to God.

With this ring I the wed, it is a token of my love and a sign of our covenant that I release now in Jesus name.

12. PRONOUNCE BLESSING —Deuteronomy 28:

If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God: Your towns and your fields will be blessed. Your children and your crops will be blessed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed. The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven! The Lord will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. If you obey the commands of the Lord your God and walk in his ways, the Lord will establish you as his holy people as he swore he would do. Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the Lord, and they will stand in awe of you. The Lord will give you prosperity in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, blessing you with many children, numerous livestock, and abundant crops. The Lord will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them. If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom. You must not turn away from any of the commands I am giving you today, nor follow after other gods and worship them.
