The question we want to consider today is whether miracles still occur?
In 2024, does God still do miracles?
First of all, what is a miracle?
A miracle is a manifestation of God’s power over the natural world.
If someone was born blind and all of a sudden they see, we would say that is a miracle because someone someone who is born blind, it is impossible for them to see.
If someone’s refrigerator had no more food left, and all of a sudden they open it and it is completely stocked with delicious food, then we would say that is a miracle.
In today’s sermon we will be preaching about two people that experienced miracles.
The first is Aeneas, the Bible says he had been paralyzed for eight years but God miraculously healed him through Peter.
Hechos de los Apóstoles 9:34 NIV
34 “Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up.
The second is Tabitha. She had become suddenly ill and died. However, Peter prayed for her and God raised her from the dead.
Hechos de los Apóstoles 9:36–37 NIV
36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room.
Hechos de los Apóstoles 9:40 NIV
40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.
These two people witnessed God’s mighty power in their lives - one was able to walk and one came back from the dead.
There are many other miracles in the Bible such as the feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish.
God also opened the Red Sea so the children of Israel could walk on dry land.
God did these and many other miracles.
…but possibly the greatest miracle is when God raised his son Jesus from the dead.
Jesus’ body was lying in the tomb for three days…and on Sunday morning just as the sun was rising - Jesus came back from the dead by the power of God.
As Christian believers we believe in the supernatural.
Supernatural is the idea that there is something beyond this natural world.
When you believe in the supernatural you believe that God can heal, that God healed a blind man, that God raised Tabitha from the dead, that God cleansed the leper.
We believe in the supernatural not because we wish God was able to do miracles; rather, we believe in the supernatural because the Bible gives evidence that God does miracles.
…it is for this reason, that we seek his face, even in impossible situations, because we know that healing, comfort, strength, ultimately come from him.
God continues to do miracles in our lives…and there is one miracle that we continue to see day after day.
This miracle is not as flashy as the healing of a blind man or someone that has been paralyzed since they were born.
…this is the miracle of the new birth. When you hear God’s word and you sincerely decide to follow him, this is the miracle of the new birth. In this miracle God opens your spiritual eyes to see and love Jesus Christ above everything.
Let us pray that God will continue to do miracles in our lives, and most of all that he would continue his miraculous work of saving people from their sins.
